we are actually on it. A bit of patching needed for the upcoming daylight savings change, so should happen around then.

I must be missing something here - the time thing has been ongoing forever.
What exaclty is the difficulty in resetting the time??
I run vbulletins - so I know its not in the software...
So I take it that it's your server time that is proving so difficult to synchronise with the rest of NZ??

580705 2007-08-18 04:01:00 Indeed, somehow I doubt that they are 'on to it' - it takes under 20 seconds via ssh to fix the time, and under a minute to install ntpd so that the problem never recurs. In my opinion that's time well spent. Erayd (23)

Which again raises my question, do you have MS employees running the show here? :p

580707 2007-08-26 18:08:00 Jan . . I have a small question . . it may not be a good idea . . but please listen and comment anyway . . . OK?

I see many times that people just pop in and ask a question and disappear until they need help in the future . We also get a few spammers who get reported and then after a while they get banned or deleted when a MOD sees the notification we underlings send and it then gets acted upon .

I'm OK with that as there are other things then F1 on the net . . but I have an idea to separate the real issues from the spammers and just the pop-ins who don't want to help or at least reply with a TY or confirm if the resolution they received actually worked or not .

Have each and every one fill in a mandatory profile card before they can ask their question . . make it fairly complete . . . let them option out of some things that might be security issues . . . . . just an e-mail address and a user name should not be enough to post .

It's been so long since I signed onto here that I don't even remember the process . . . maybe I DID register an e-mail address . . I don't know . . but I am older now and less subject to mental recall .

Anywho . . . . then there could be a "Quality Of Service" e-mail sent to the person who asked the question . . . not that there would be any grading on the answers given to them . . but at least to try to get them to think about being courteous in the RSVP . You would know that their e-mail address was real too . . . just don't make it public . . for good reasons!

I am sure that somehow a small line or two of code or a gui could be written by some enterprising writer to generate that satisfaction questionnaire for any new person who posted a question here .

If people like yourself and other tower residents ( :) ) would get their heads together, I am sure this could be done easily enough . Be sure to ask the trench-dwellers for ideas too . . . it makes us feel good to get a little sunshine piped into the dungeon .

Since we are all just learning here . . no matter what our experience or age . . we should really make it imperative that the people that get help here at least get a follow up question or two about the service they got .

Now . . I have to go meditate and try to remember if I registered here or not . . . . . Hmmmmmmm .

580708 2007-08-28 00:39:00 Holy crap!

There are some amazingly rude people here . Well, one anyway .

If I caught my kids making some of the comments I've read here, presumably from adults, Sue Bradford couldn't help them .

I'm all for a healthy bit of piss-taking, in fact the more the better! . . . . but flippin 'eck . There's a line, and some of you fellas have crossed it .

Seems simple to me .

You like it, stay .
You don't, leave .

580709 2007-08-28 02:14:00 I think Jan is just trying to cut down on worthless posts, not good old discussion after a "resolved question". At least I hope so. We really should be less rude to him at any rate, despite any disagreements.

He just worded his first post in a terribly misleading way, as he explained before (that's how it seems to me).

Discussion after a question has been answered is an essential part of the forum. Nobody wants this place to become ExpertsExchange, with Accepted Answers and things.....

I don't get the forum clock issue though. How hard can it be to fix? Surely in a company like this, it would be a matter of ringing the server guy(s) and telling him/them to set the time on the server right?

Is the clock somehow running slower or faster than real time or something?

580711 2007-08-28 04:38:00 It may have been mentioned already (I haven't read every post in this thread), but the MS newsgroups send you an email whenever there is a reply post to your thread and then they give you a couple of links where you are directed to your thread and the new post and asked whether the post has answered your question . It's quick and easy (although perhaps a bit clinical) . Personally, I quite like the way threads can ramble on here . But an automated email to say there have been replies to your post would be helpful, and once you'd clicked a button to sat yes your question was answered that would stop the email alerts and let others drift off topic if they wanted .

A Microsoft Community member has responded to your question entitled ????????? . Please read the response and indicate whether it answered your question or not . By rating a post as an answer, you help others find the answer more quickly, you give the person who posted the answer credit for their contribution, and you help increase the quality of answers in the discussion group .
