580777 2007-08-14 04:29:00 Ok i have what i thought was the most up to date version of Internet Explorer 6

and when i check the about thingy in my browser it say
ie 6.0.28.yadayada

But i happened to be checking a customers web logs and it appears someone using IE 6.1 has visited the site stats below, but there are only 3 hits, which is pretty bloody odd, if it was released to the general poublic etc i would expect there to be more hits for IE6.1 than for IE 2.0

Msie 7.0 170324
Msie 6.1 3
Msie 6.0 173371
Msie 5.5 194
Msie 5.23 366
Msie 5.01 434
Msie 5.0 36
Msie 2.0 33

So what is appearing in the weblogs, is it a spider, someones own hacked user agent?

Actually the weird thing this month is the variety of browsers and O/s that have viewed the site, if you take out the usual suspects IE, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Netscape and windows & Mac

Camino 238
K-Meleon 208
Links 181
LibWWW 37
Epiphany 25
BonEcho (Firefox 2.0 development) 21
Phoenix 17
NetPositive 12
Firebird (Old Firefox) 6
Acrobat Webcapture Yes 5
LibWWW-perl 5
Konqueror 5
HTTP user-agent for POE (portable networking framework for Perl)

and as for O/S how does BeOS, RISCOS, AmigaOS, OS/2 and of course linux (with Fedora whipping Ubuntu by a factor of 200 to 1 for page hits)

It is just a bit odd as normally I'll only get one or 2 alternate browsers or operating systems, but this month is just unusual and the site is NOT a computery technology site it's a hobby and handicrafts type site

Cheers

580780 2007-08-14 07:18:00 I know it is a slightly anal thing to comment on, But it is just odd, and no other sites i have anything to do with have it in their logs

Hmmm this gives me a cunning plan

How about me all change our user Agents to (IE 8 with vista sp1), and then visit a few technology gossip sites, and see how long it takes before we start a rumor mill going
