| 580549 | 2007-08-13 19:41:00 | Here's the problem . . . . I am still getting notices to update to 2 . 0 . 0 . 6 on one of my puters . . and it then tells me that cannot get it installed because of . . well here's a C/P of the notice: One or more files could not be updated . Please make sure all other applications are closed and that you have permission to modify files, and then restart Firefox to try again . OK . . so I have four computers all running identical anti-stuff, firewalls, through the same router and XP-Pro/SP2 with all the latest updates except for WMP11 . I've Googled the problem and there is a general consensus that it's Spybot as the culprit . All the puters have exactly the same settings in Spybot . . the permissions and the start-ups, etc, etc . How can that be if ALL the others have gotten the update successfully but not this tower? Is there some reason why the IP #'s xxx . xxx . x . 100, -102, -103 can get the updates and xxx . xxx . x . 101 cannot? Is there a hidden agenda in Spybot that protects the master on the router and lets the slaves get the updates without raising an eyebrow? |

But, is your difficulty in upgrading to FF 2.0.0.6 Linux or Windows based? The latest OS that I am using is PCLinuxOS 2007 and it has, amongst its repositories, both Firefox 2.0.0.6 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.6. Installed each via Synaptic and they are both working like a charm. Picked up my bookmarks, address book, and message storage location perfectly. The theme that I prefer, Noia Extreme was also incorporated into each. Happy hunting, Jim:thumbs: |

| 580553 | 2007-08-14 00:02:00 | Speedy One . . . That's what I did, and it worked that way . . . but I STILL don't understand the selectiveness of it not going to this puter (SOYO/AthlonXP; XP-Pro/SP2) and having no problems going to the Dells that are equally set up . . except with P-3s and P4s . Even that rusty old Compaq had no troubles with it . . just this one did! Oh well . . . . . :xmouth: Hhel . . . . This SOYO is also a Linux/XP dual-boot, but with Ubuntu; the server unit (Dell P-3, 750), which is NOT online, is Mepis . . . and running quite well I might add . . although I have no understanding WHY! Good fortune, I think or accidentally at most . |
