579965 2007-08-12 22:42:00 Is this software worth keeping on one's computer?

It has created it's own Taskbar on the Explorer screen, using the Yahoo symbol to boot.

Have just been into FamilySearch.org and the the dropdown arrow is now the numeral 6 and display characters are bold 14 point.

Probably needs fine tuning as the scan function looks to take out all Cookies History etc.

Any help appreciated.

Lurking.

579966 2007-08-12 22:55:00 I use it. It did not install any weird stuff for me. I don't willingly let any program install yahoo or google or any other addons normally.

It does a reasonable cleanout but does not get everything. I use it in combination with Registry Repair every so often, shut my eyes and cleanout all and hope for the best. Failing that restore my hdd image.

579967 2007-08-12 22:57:00 Yup, I use it on the 2 PC's here. Nothing wrong with it.

Altho I dont have the Yahoo Toolbar, (you have an option of installing or unticking the toolbar option).

When you install ccleaner.

The toolbar can also be uninstalled, if u dont want it.

579968 2007-08-12 23:03:00 By default when you install Ccleaner, it adds in the tool bars, you have to untick the boxes if you dont want that feature installed.
If you want to remove the tool bars go to add/remove programs locate the toolbar in the list and uninstall it. If you only want to remove the tool bar from site when in IE, go to View/toolbars/ untick the tool bar. It will still be there, just not visable.

I have read somewhere else in these forums that Registry Repair can actually cause more problens than it fixes.

Maybe some other techs / knowledgable person may be able to give more info on that.

Another cleaner I use is CleanUp (www.stevengould.org)

It also finds items Ccleaner misses. WARNING: I have known this cleaner to remove files that certain PC's need, Eg. Laptops and some HP's. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

579969 2007-08-12 23:11:00 Yup u have to be careful what program, you use to remove registry entries, delete the wrong one/s you'll have no other option but to reformat.

I know First Aid was crap, it removed registry entries, but also removed valid entries. And WILL MAKE a system unusable.

Yes and no.
CCleaner always gives you the option to back-up the registry entries you are about to delete (which i always do) so if you had backed them up, you could fix the problem by backing up to your removed entries.

579973 2007-08-13 00:00:00 I always just download the Slim version from this (www.ccleaner.com) page. CYaBro (73)
