| 581545 | 2007-08-16 08:12:00 | Using XP PRO and after being on the internet and then closing the connection my computer freezes up for 2 to 3 minutes when nothing will work and I just have to wait or reboot. New installation of XP hasnt fixed problem Also when right click on desktop and then properties all I get is display properties where has wallpaper screensaver properties gone . | 581547 | 2007-08-16 08:31:00 | The desktop problem- What happens if you right click on the desktop to bring up the menu, click on properties at the bottom?. That should take you to the 'Display' screen where you have tabs, the background is in the 'desktop' tab, the screensaver under the 'screensaver' tab. You can also access these through start> control panel> display It sounds like you have a dial-up connection if you are disconnecting. There could be some conflict or problem if you have an internal modem... it might not be disconnecting properly. You could go into control panel> system> hardware> device manager then see if you can find your modem listed. If it has a yellow ? beside it there is a problem and you can troubleshoot by clicking on the modem icon. From there it's anyone's guess, been a long time since I have used a modem! |

| 581550 | 2007-08-16 22:58:00 | You may have damaged system files. Two things to try. Start in safe Mode, by pressing F8 while starting, see if its any better. Click on Start / Run and type in sfc/ scannow ( note the space after / ) you may be prompted for the windows CD See if that helps. |
