580808 2007-08-14 08:02:00 I have a wireless router. Obviously broadband. I usually connect my PC desktop and laptop to it. Tonight I decided to connect my work iBook (reason? my PC laptop power supply is dodgy - loose wire). I thought it would be easy. But no. Could the techie at work have set up things to make it difficult? Rossini (12327)
580809 2007-08-14 08:15:00 You'll have to find out where the you enter the ip addresses etc in on the Ibook.

Do you know where this is??

You'll most probably have to point it to the router or something. I dont know. I dont use BB or a router.

Or it could be depending on how far the Ibook is from the router, it needs adding to the router, or you need an access point.

580810 2007-08-14 08:17:00 Yes, I have a wireless router (broadband) which connects my PC Desktop and laptop. Both connect via this to the Internet. I do not have a network. I have not used my work iBook on here before. Rossini (12327)

Yes you do need the admins login and password to make changes after that it should be fairly automatic.

ip address shouldn't be required to be entered in this situation, although to answer that question it is the Apple key + K for the shortcut.

580813 2007-08-14 08:30:00 From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences, then click Network. From the Show pop-up menu, choose Network Port Configurations (or Active Network Ports) and make sure that the AirPort checkbox is selected.

From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
Click the Network Icon.
In the Show: field, make sure that Airport is selected
In the By default, join: field, select Automatic
