581606 2007-08-16 09:33:00 Ok this is the first time I've been able to even do anything today without my PC freezing... It freezes at odd points during startup. Sometimes it'll freeze at the BIOS screen, other times during the Windows loading screen, and if I even get past that, the mouse pointer, along with everything will just freeze

I always keep my PC as clean as I can... at startup I only have about 24 processes running...

I'm really worried about this.

581607 2007-08-16 09:43:00 Sounds like a hardware problem. Have you added any new parts to the computer recently, such as new RAM? Could possibly be a problem with the RAM or a failing PSU (power supply unit). FoxyMX (5)
581608 2007-08-16 09:53:00 if it has something to do with the PSU, what can I do about it? restoril (12672)
581609 2007-08-16 09:59:00 If it is the PSU you will have to replace it . You need to go through some trial and error to find out exactly what the cause of your problem is however . Easiest thing to start with is the RAM .

You didn't answer my question - have you added new hardware recently?

581611 2007-08-16 10:17:00 if its freezing at bios screen then its not an OS (windows) problem.

PSU faults are comman.

otherwise it could simply stalling when hitting a faulty componant, ie cd drive, ram, cpu, sound card, video card etc. did you have any problems before you formatted pc?

Hi, First thing I'd be doing is to unplug all the external items you listed, including any printers/scanners or other USB devices, that will take some of the load off the MB / PSU, then try starting and see if that makes any difference. - please let us know - I'm looking up that model of PC to find any more spec's.

Also was the reinstall from the recovery partition or seperate CD/Drivers?

581615 2007-08-16 10:47:00 If the BIOS resetting doesn'twork like ferrite suggested, download Memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/) It's free burn the ISO to CD and run that, just in case the memory is failing. Dodgy PSU's and Memory can cause all sorts of problems. wainuitech (129)
