581325 2007-08-15 10:31:00 I have a 17" dell LCD, but it stopped working around a year ago or more and has been sitting in my cupboard as I didn't bother getting it fixed as it had just passed the 1 year warranty. Now my back up monitor has blown up and I am now down to a 15 inch CRT monitor.....not a good look! I would like to get my LCD screen fixed but where, and who fixes them in Christchurch????? Am I better selling it on Trademe and put the $$ toward a new one???? magicroundabout (12670)

LCD's can be costly to repair. So be careful if you can find someone. With their price these days its almost throw away material. Have you tried any local repair shops in CHCH?

Might be a bit hard to sell a Blown LCD on Trademe ? Who would want it if it doesn't go.

581328 2007-08-15 12:06:00 You should of taken it in when it first stopped working although out of warranty you still would of been covered by the Consumers Gaurantees Act and you might find that you still are. Take it to where you bought it from but just don't till them when it stopped going. If they hesitate just mention that you are covered by the Consumers Gaurantees Act if they give you any hassle.

Unbelievable what you can sell on trademe. I sell heaps of stuff that doesn't go, and so long as you are honest, you can get rid of almost anything.

I really thought about doing this at the time, but with it being bought over the internet from Dell, so no shop to return it to, and me working 24/7 (not quite but it feels like it sometimes!) I never got around to it. I rang dell at the time and they said it was out of warranty so not their problem, and you know what it's like trying to explain the NZ Consumer Gaurantees Act to someone in Malaysia or wherever they are, I gave up!!!

581331 2007-08-15 23:33:00 Given the price that faulty goods sell for on Trademe, you'd probably be better off just selling it (as faulty), and buying a new one. New 17" LCDs are around the $250 mark nowadays. somebody (208)
