582005 2007-08-17 21:38:00 Everything I plug in (a USB port that is) has my computer telling me that it is a USB 2 device. Then it goes on to say that it would be better being put in a USB 2 slot. On 'asking to see' these USB 2 slots, it basically shows them all. I'm fairly certain my mobo and system IS USB 2 compliant, but it always gives this message. So, is there something I'm missing here, or would I be safe in assuming that they are working at USB 2 speeds?
USB 1.1 is fast enough, I guess, if that's all I can get. I've not really noticed any huge time taken to move files, photos etc. between a USB stick and the HDD, or viccy verccy. But I use an external HDD for storage, and if it's being slowed down for some reason, well, guess I'd like to find out.
Could it be in the BIOS maybe?
Cheers.

582006 2007-08-17 21:52:00 IS SP1 or 2 installed if youre using XP?

582007 2007-08-17 21:57:00 Windows XP SP 1, 2 and almost very up to date. Only just seen the little shield shouting "Updates avaliable" on this very boot up. But haven't downloaded them yet. So everything up to two days ago! Adrain (12668)
582008 2007-08-17 21:58:00 Ok go to device manager USB controllers down the bottom.

Delete all of them and then reboot.

See if that fixes it.

582009 2007-08-17 22:12:00 Any idea what motherboard you have in this computer? Make/model? Myth (110)
582010 2007-08-17 22:16:00 Do any of the entries under USB controllers in device manager, say enhanced??

If not then its not USB 2, its 1.1.

582011 2007-08-17 23:29:00 Wow! Has everyone had double coffee? I was not expecting help this quick! Thank you.
Right, Speedy Gonzales, are you sure that deleting all of the USB controllers is a safe thing to do? I'm just a little nervous to just delete any thing when I'm not sure if I have every CD with the drivers on to hand. Also, the first 'entry' under USB Controllers in the Device Manager says that it is a "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" and the last states that it is a "VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller". If that helps. There are 11 more and they do not show 'enhanced'.

My mobo, 'Myth' is an ASUS A8N-SLI SE.

582012 2007-08-17 23:50:00 Deleting the entries will be fine, they'll come back after you reboot.

Sometimes u haveta do this for USB 2 to work.

After SP1 or 2 has been installed.

It does say enhanced tho, thats the main thing.

After doing the above, if USB 2 still doesnt work!, go into the BIOS and make sure USB 2 is on hispeed , I think it is..

It should definitely support USB 2.

582013 2007-08-18 00:02:00 I'll try it now! Adrain (12668)
582014 2007-08-18 03:05:00 I was only asking to ensure that you had a USB 2.0 motherboard. It seems you do :)
Carry on with what Speedy suggests, when Windows reboots it will find and reinstall the USB host controllers auto :)
