581995 2007-08-17 16:42:00 okay so this is what i have - shop1.outpost.com let me know if link doesnt work. i got a 512mb ddr2 ram with it and a ge-force 7100 gs pci-express grapics card and a pentium 4 3.06ghz processer, but i want to get a new motherboard cause my friend's motherboard is overheating on him(same brand), he has way more fans then i do, and im starting to notice mine doing almost the same thing. so i want to get a new mobo before my pc dies on me can you recommend one? deathracer (11825)
581996 2007-08-17 18:07:00 well dont buy ECS they aren't the best quality well they didn't used to be at all ! drcspy (146)
581997 2007-08-17 20:10:00 i want to get a new motherboard cause my friend's motherboard is overheating on him(same brand), he has way more fans then i do, and im starting to notice mine doing almost the same thing .

And what exactly are the symptoms?

How exactly does a motherboard overheat? A CPU can overheat, the chipset fans on the motherboard can fail and cause the chips to overheat, but a motherboard as such doesn't overheat .

581998 2007-08-18 06:53:00 well im not exactly wich is wich on speed fan but here goes:
temp1: this is usually in 80 degrees farenheit
temp2: this is usually 120 but goes up all of a sudden sometimes. stays up in my friends computer. at 120 its good but above like 125 degrees farenheit is when it starts to show the little flame.
temp3: this has and always stays at 236 degrees farenheit no matter what but speedfan has a little flame next to it so i dont know if thats a problem or not.
and my hdd's are ok.
if you need more info ask.

Two of those Temps are well within the operating range of a PC.

Quick rough maths -
80 F = 27 C - This temp OK
125 F = 52 C - This Temp OK
236 F = 113 C This temp is NOT good, that flame more than likely is a warning of overheating.

See if you can follow the censor wires and see what they are connected to and what temp is showing on what reading. I suspect the Higher temp is the CPU or Graphic card.

Check that there is nothing blocking the cooling intakes/ vents ( dust etc) and make sure the CPU and graphic card fan ( if it has one) is not full of rubbish also.

582000 2007-08-18 10:16:00 I use Speedfan too. Is that high temperature linked to the 'AUX' sensor? My AUX reading is also continuously high (251F = 122C just now) even when the PC is just turned on from stone cold. I think the reading is spurious. I decided to ignore that particular sensor some time ago and my PC hasn't melted yet ;)

My readings are:

System: 43C (109F), CPU: 16C (60F), AUX: 122C (251F) HD0: 37C (98F).

My system is an Intel Core2-Duo E6300, ASUS P5B-VM motherboard so the temps are bound to be different to yours, but I think the AUX temp is not accurate.

582001 2007-08-18 11:54:00 Have a look at this post on the ASUS forum re AUX temp in Speedfan:

582002 2007-08-18 23:05:00 speedfan will often detect a 3rd sensor with a rediculusly high/low temp.

(my asus K8N gets -125*C from somewhere !)

Now if that were true, i'd see ice somewhere!

582003 2007-08-19 03:09:00 Now if that were true, i'd see ice somewhere! You will only see ice if there was water there or a lot of condensation ;) The_End_Of_Reality (334)

Lol, I know mine used to so the same. My fan was apparently running at 250k revs a min and was at about -98*C. That explains why my fans never lasted longer than 30s:lol:
