581801 2007-08-16 22:51:00 Hi

I am running Windows Vista.
When ever I click on an email address, say in mail in Winmail, ie accounts@pcworld.co.nz, Vista tries to open up internet explorer instead of new mail in W:2cents: inmail.
I believe the problem has something to do with preferences setup in the control panel.
Any ideas how I can fix this problem please

Ron

581802 2007-08-16 23:12:00 Click Start orb / Default Programs (on the right) The you have two choices "set Default ....." or Associate ...blah blah etc"

In "Set Default" make sure winmail is the email client, not IE, you can also check in "associate......" once set, click apply /OK and that should work

581803 2007-08-17 01:04:00 Hi
I tried what you said about the defaults program and still have had no luck. Internet explorer opens up in about 30 odd windows. Unfortunately no Winmail create mail window opens. I dont want to get that big hammer out yet.
Any further suggestions?

581804 2007-08-17 03:47:00 Right click IE - then properties - in there go to "programs" set your mail client in there. GhostBuster (10141)
581805 2007-08-17 21:18:00 Thanks for your input Ghostbuster. There seems to be no where in properties to set email client. I checked the General, Compatibility, Security and Details tabs?? ronr (1234)
581806 2007-08-17 21:29:00 Right click IE - then properties - in there go to "programs" set your mail client in there.

This is only applicable to IE6 and earlier, not IE7 on Vista. Instead, go to: Tools-Internet Options-Programs-Set Programs "Associate a File type...." Find: "MAILTO", and click "Change Program", and select whatever program you want to use.

581807 2007-08-17 21:57:00 Hi Ghostbuster

There is no "Mail to"

There is "Windows mail e-mail message and a Windows mail new message" but both of these are set to Winmail.
I tried setting "Mapimail file" to Winmail but this made no difference.
In the whole list of associate a file types I have Winmail opening only the two mentioned above and News prolcol, NNTP protocol and S-News protocol
I am still stumped?
