| 582093 | 2007-08-18 12:06:00 | For security reasons check: 1) your insurance premiums are up to date 2) your contacts here on PCW do not lead to your school 3) You have had the boys in the welding dept over to secure the machines to the WALLS! Great looking machines <> great machines to use. Funny... I don't know if an eMac has ever been stolen from a school. I have spent the last two days setting the machines up and redeploying eMacs to elsewhere in the school. I finally had a chance to play around with some apps on the new iMac. Early days, but I was fairly pleased with the fact that the RAM and CPU hardly budged even though I had opened both Flash MX 2004 & Fireworks MX 2004. Still running both apps, I performed a fairly CPU & RAM intensive task in Fireworks. The machine performed better than eMacs with 512 RAM. Neither of these apps are native to Intel, so I'm delighted that the school will not be forced into costly software upgrades or taking a punt on the current version of GIMP being stable enough to use. |

| 582094 | 2007-08-18 12:13:00 | Lets see what they look like after some kid knocks them off the desk. I was thinking of using a glue gun to secure the iMacs to the desks. Trying to keep oily fingers off the screens I though would be my pet annoyance/concern... followed by students sneezing on their hands and then touching the mouse or keyboard. |

Can you imagine what it would be like if all the women of the world were look alikes? How would you know which was yours. That goes for men a swell. One make & model of car, Motor Bike, push bike. TV. Music. 'It doesn't bear thinking about. Just think. if you married & divorced, then married again what would be different? PJ:2cents: Roger that! I'm not sure where I read it... someone said something along the lines of... If somebody is going to struggle to understand how to use a computer... putting them in front of a Mac or Windows machine will not make any difference. Sure there are stories about tech phobic grannys... now happily exchanging email and surfing the net on easy to use iMacs. Just short incomplete stories. Who set the computer up? Who fixes it when Apple breaks something with one of their patches? Apple plays on the simplicity thing. It is just pure marketing, as is the one button mouse (kind of prior to the Mighty Mouse... did they break copyright on that?). People were too stupid to use a two button mouse. Genius marketing. Their advertising is funny, but inaccurate. I use a MacBook Pro and a HP Laptop most days... they even talk nicely to each other via bluetooth. |

| 582097 | 2007-08-18 21:13:00 | well I finally got my new imac set up about 1 this morning. First impressions are good. I do like the new keyboard. The screen is so much more brighter then on my old imac. Still migrating a lot of my stuff over. | plod (107) | ||
| 582098 | 2007-08-18 21:23:00 | Is your old iMac the Sunflower/desklamp model or the more recent upright model? | winmacguy (3367) | ||
| 582099 | 2007-08-18 21:29:00 | Is your old iMac the Sunflower/desklamp model or the more recent upright model? G4 desklamp. My oldest son, has been wanting a computerfor a while so that was the excuse to buy the new one. No other reason. The old one was about 4.5-5 years old, we think. |

| 582100 | 2007-08-18 21:32:00 | I would say that you will notice a considerable difference in speed between the old G4 chip to the new C2D chip. | winmacguy (3367) | ||
| 582101 | 2007-08-18 22:32:00 | Lets see what they look like after some kid knocks them off the desk.I can assure you as an owner of a 20-inch iMac, it would be very unlikely to get knocked off a desk. They are much heavier than they look and pretty solid. Of course, you could always attach it to the desk somehow if the children are really that out of control. It would be very hard to "accidently" knock one off a desk. :p | maccrazy (6741) | ||

I think Metla was just trying to create his usual train wreck on this thread. He seems to have an appetite for destruction:rolleyes: |
