582083 2007-08-18 09:47:00 The memory slots for adding new RAM are annoying though. I'd still like to see a cheaper version of the Mac Pro...

Wouldn't we all, although I think you would have to pick one up direct from the US to do that.

582084 2007-08-18 09:56:00 If kids are too buisy beating up the computers they are obviously not spending a whole lot of time learning.... Most reports that I have heard about Macs in education is that kids are having too much fun creating stuff to worry about destroying the hardware.:)

The Mac v PC issue in education is an ongoing debate. To me if the network is Mac then keep it Mac and the same goes for PC. There is nothing that can't be done on one that can't be done on the other. Think hard before having a mixed OS environment and only do it for sound reasons.

Accidents happen, even when the new school 15" LCD screen (top of the line when purchase some time ago) had pencil drawn very hard into the screen within a week of install was an accident I was told.

Everything in this world is down to personal taste.
Can you imagine what it would be like if all the women of the world were look alikes? How would you know which was yours. That goes for men a swell.
One make & model of car, Motor Bike, push bike. TV. Music. 'It doesn't bear thinking about.

Just think. if you married & divorced, then married again what would be different? PJ:2cents:

Surely we participate in the discussion because we enjoy it.

Otherwise we wouldn't:lol:

Why choose to be bothered about it?

That mentality and way of thinking is about 7 years out of date regarding cross platform issues between Mac and PC that died with the introduction of OS X.

582088 2007-08-18 10:28:00 Yeah, but the eMac was so cheap. Ok I have had to move quite a few today so I'd be happy not to lift another. Environmental disaster anyway.

Wait till you use one(keyboard), they feel odd. I'm more concerned at how well they will last. Apple mice and keyboard cables seem to wear out, exposing the wire way too fast. No sure how robust the keyboard will be. It is like a laptop keyboard.

Apparently these screens have a bit of anti glare. My room has very little natural lighting, I'm not sure how they would go in a normal classroom. Seriously they look great. Time will tell I guess. With laptops your environment changes regular like. Might be a diff issue with desktops, shiny screens and all.

A shipment of 17" iMacs came in with the 20" refreshs. I heard that there were some big orders for the 17"... so I'm not sure how long they will last.
The mouse is mighty... I'd just prefer a scroll wheel to the daft nipple.

For security reasons check:
1) your insurance premiums are up to date
2) your contacts here on PCW do not lead to your school
3) You have had the boys in the welding dept over to secure the machines to the WALLS!

Great looking machines <> great machines to use.

Thats a bit silly, Walk into just about any school and you will see numerous flash harry computers. If someone was to break in and do some stealing they can just go to their local.

Not going to comment any further except to say that AdmitMac and ExtremeZ-IP are still in business, in the real world, where I work in a mixed OS enviroment.

I never said that they weren't, what I was referring to was that the old days of having file sharing and networking issues between OS9 and Windows are no where near the issues they used to be.
