2007-08-22 02:28:00 | This answer is in another thread. "I had no problems with Outlook Express or Webmail but could not send in Thunderbird. No answers from Xtra on this but there is a simple work around given to me by a friend. 1. In Thunderbird go to Tools. 2. Click on Account Settings. 3. In the left hand part of the Account Settings box click on Outgoing Server. 4. On the right hand side under the resultant 'Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings' click on 'Edit'. 5. A SMTP Server box opens. 6. Under heading 'Security and Authentication' unclick 'Use Name and Password' box. 7. Click on OK in both open boxes. 8. Send yourself a trial e-mail to check that problem solved. It is not your SMTP settings or your anti-virus or firewall software or whatever else the help desk tries to tell you it is." This is a bit flamey, but then it is (mostly) the complaint I lodged with Xhoo. "The changeover to Yahoo!7 mail was a complete abortion. If any emails were sent to us they must have been deleted by our own spam killer. (lesson 1, reduce the amateur geek content in your emails). It was not easy to find the page that mentioned officemail instead of xtra as the mail domain. When we finally got that information there was nothing for the many small businesses which run their own mail server which don't use SSL (a bit more digging uncovered using port 587 for SMTP). POP3 authentication is necessary, but for SMTP the instructions to authenticate to send.officemail.co.nz using the account and password result in authentication failure. Not authenticating to SMTP allows mail to flow!" I suspect that the advice to keep using port 25 to smtp.xtra.co.nz will only be good for a short while before the NZ based servers are turned off. Thanks for your post Araucaria, helped to send us in the right direction.

2007-08-23 00:55:00 | Xtra does now give an answer that works at xtra.co.nz "You are here : Xtra > Help Thu 23 August 2007 How do I collect my mail with Another Email Client? Want to use another email program to send and receive Yahoo!Xtra Pro Mail messages? If so, you'll be asked to designate a new incoming (POP3) mail server and a new outgoing (SMTP) mail server. Here are the basic server settings for Yahoo!Xtra Pro Mail: Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop3.xtra.co.nz (Use SSL, port: 995) Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: send.xtra.co.nz (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication) Account Name/Login Name: Your Xtra Mail ID (your email address with the "@xtra.co.nz") Email Address: Your Xtra Mail address (e.g., user@xtra.co.nz) Password: Your Xtra Mail password If you can't add new POP or SMTP servers, you'll need to change your current server settings to access your Xtra Mail account. Write down your current settings first-you might need to revert to them later if you decide to send and receive messages from your other email addresses. Your other email program will give you the option of either deleting your Xtra messages from the mail server after downloading them, or leaving them on the mail server so you can see them online in your Yahoo!Xtra Pro Mail account, too." There are answers for other email programs at xtra.co.nz These links come from the main page at xtra.co.nz

2007-08-23 01:24:00 | Well .... I used these settings yesterday, and all was fine ... but now I can't get my mail! :( Setting the POP settings back to non-SSL on port 110/SMTP to unauthenticated on port 25 works for me ... What's going on?

What's going on? You try various combinations of both the old and new settings. Its completely random which works for different people. I'm still doing this for people. Well except the sensible ones who have now dumped Xtra and moved to other providers.................... |

2007-08-28 00:56:00 | I've had the recommended (xtra.co.nz) settings work fine for OE, but not Thunderbird or Incredimail. Incredimail worked with SSL 995 and normal 25. Thunderbird liked both non SSL (110 and 25), (that was yesterday) and Outlook worked on several different settings. The whole thing is FUBAR!!!!!
