582043 2007-08-17 12:10:00 Be curious to know if any schools have got beyond just a mail or proxy Linux box and have gone all the way. It is all about finding people who can make it work.
I was under the impression you can make it work.

582044 2007-08-17 12:14:00 They download a *MOVIE* real fast, yes. A video conference? Is that anywhere near the size of a movie? (seriously, i dont know) (and by movie I am talking Star Wars etc)

Even so, 55 seconds is a little too quick. I mean, I'd be all for we were in an era when the rest of NZ's broadband didn't suck ass.

I could put better use to [insert movie size] in 55 seconds than a 5 year old could on a probably outdated learning program with a talking frog.

I dunno if I'm more anti the high school getting it, or the kindergartan (or was it primary?). In the high school shots it had people downloading music, on bebo etc. Kindergartan shots it had about 99% of the super fast broadband getting put to waste / not getting used.

Couldn't businesses put it to better use than schools?

But anyway, I'm going to bed - I'm just a little mad that some damn schools can download faster than me :(

582045 2007-08-17 12:15:00 It may be best if you do not use the word "We" and "I".
"We" means collective, as a group. "I" is singular and means just you.

In one post you say "a school"

Later you refer to the fact that "I have 250 computers"

Did you say what you meant to say?
For example "It was going to cost Me $800

The word "Me" does not mean anyone other than you.

Thanks for lesson.
I'll try to be more anal when making posts in future.

582047 2007-08-17 12:28:00 Remember the loyal scheme thing I mentioned at the start? Telecom currently pays for all the Internet and phone bills for the school that I work for .

Students research topics, the informations comes in various formats, video, text, audio, flash and images . When a whole lot of people are searching and learning from a dynamic information source that requires better capacity than currently on offer to most schools .

You seem kind of fixated on the fact that they download a movie real fast .
Some students - particularly - high school, require tuition not available at their school, video conferencing is one way to achieve this .
The school you work for? Students need to learn?
May I ask which school is this for whom you do work?
I would think you get paid some amount of money .
If Telecom and/or other ISP will not help then I would suggest you do your own thing .
You even may teach students to think or text . Take your pick .

Ok, I see what you mean .
I guess that everybody wants a piece of faster access .
Faster access doesn't always make for better educational outcomes .
However it does create more opportunities rich learning and interaction to be developed or occur .

The fact that you work for a school, even as an IT person should atleast mean that you have some proper grammar skills and recognize the correct use of pronouns .

Kids can have all the shiny, overpriced Macs and super-fast internet that hey want but if all they can say is "Oh aye, nu Macs, FanC thOs, BetA thN teh Dells lulwhut" (it does mean something), all those fancy toys are absolutely useless .
