582213 2007-08-28 10:04:00 Had my first problem with the new 20" iMacs today. Powered one of the iMacs up sometime around 1:30 pm and the screen just went white-ish and the machine made a few screaming noises every few moments (I didn't count).

A restart just created the same unpleasant experience.
Restarted around about 30 minutes later and everything was back to normal.
What can it mean?

I'm off to search some Apple forums.

Its one of two possible scenarios, either Microsoft Ninjas infiltrated your defenses and sabotaged the gear, or...Its possessed, in which case 2 or 3 hours intense prayer to the lord Steve Jobs and a sacrifice or 2 should sort it.

It could be a hardware issue.

582215 2007-08-28 10:15:00 Far more likely to be Ninjas. Metla (12)
582216 2007-08-28 10:22:00 Nah, Steve Jobs is a devout vegan who likes meditation so I would say that the guru inside myke's iMac might be having a bad karma attack. winmacguy (3367)

Sounds like to need to reset the System Management Controller (SMC). No doubt Apple will quietly release a firmware to fix the problem. For some reason they always seem to stuff up temperature control mechanisms...

Yeah... could be.
There seems to be a few people worried about the temperature that Apple lets those iMacs get to. The odd thing is that the iMac had been turned off for almost an hour.

I have have a t-shirt that reads... O.K. who invited the ninjas?
I recently viewed a Microsoft ninja/stealth training video.

I think that I would have noticed Microsoft's ninjas.

582221 2007-08-28 11:01:00 I never turn mine off, I just set it to sleep/power save when I leave it but that is probably because I am not attached to a server at home. I think that it is mainly offices who turn theirs off at night so that they can do server backups and stuff. winmacguy (3367)
