582193 2007-08-23 02:13:00 Hopefully the new MS OS out whenever is being re-written from scratch and should far surpass XP and Vista.

As the Tui Beer ad says...Yeah right.
(Also known as perpetual wishful thinking for something that is never going to happen)

582194 2007-08-23 02:56:00 I have asked my colleagues to take me aside all give me a good slapping... if I ever turn up to school in a black turtle neck sweater, blue faded jeans and running shoes.

You can keep the mock turtle neck and faded jeans, I'd be happy with Steve's $4 Billion net worth. :) (Most of which he got from the Pixar IPO)

582195 2007-08-23 04:01:00 does Japan count as asia? How do you come to the conclusion mac's are only good for video and music?

Yes but I'm talking more specifically about UPCOMING economies like China and India . Well they are, aren't they . You never ever hear a Mac user talking about using Excel or Word .

Metla, all I was saying is that even though Mac's MAY have "seamless integration'"(yeah Right:rolleyes) between software, PC's can still take them on and win .

Just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean that Mac users don't use Word or Excel for Mac.
PCs beat Macs in the malware and gaming departments - only the latter would be beneficial to the Mac platform. With regards to having more software, it is not always a case of having more that is better, rather the better app designed for the job at hand.

582197 2007-08-23 04:28:00 Ok fair enough, I should have watched those videos. The last one was hilarious "How am I supposed to pay my rent???"

I wasn't criticizing you or your school for picking Mac's or anything but the fact remains that Mac's are only really good for video's and music and that too not leaps and bounds ahead of a PC and that your kids are being taught on an OS which has 1/20 market share.

You saying things might change but if they haven't done so for 20-30 years?? Hopefully the new MS OS out whenever is being re-written from scratch and should far surpass XP and Vista. I can't see people from places like Asia and Africa being able to afford Mac's can you? and thats where most of the economic growth is going to come from (and wearing a black turtleneck in high humidity:rolleyes::D)

Have to agree to disagree on the limitations Macs. I actually like some of the unique features of Mac Office and wish the PC Office would take some notes from little brother. That said, a version of Access for Mac would be nice and OneNote please.

By say things might change... I guess that I wasn't clear in that I didn't mean in specifically in favour of Apple. Who would have picked the changes that South Africa would have a non-white President? or foretold the pulling down of the Berlin wall? I'm just not assuming the Windows or even a traditional OS or GUI will have dominant market share in the digital future.

Yeah I don't even think Macs fans get that Apple is a company that is about profit. Find one that isn't and I show you a company out of business.
Being perceived to be innovative is profitable for Apple.
Fortunately the windup laptop is being developed for kids in poorer nations.
Sure they can't eat computer chips... but maybe these kids can become educated and skill developed out an oppressive reliance on rich nations.

582198 2007-08-23 04:35:00 Already it seems less to me.
Maybe you mean seamless?
Forgive me if I misunderstood.

Yes, I made an error.
Were you making a joke?

Steve actually offered to donate Xamount of copies of OS X for the windup laptops but they turned down his offer in favour of Linux.

There is most definitely a god because they turned down Microsoft's offer too. :D

582202 2007-08-23 06:22:00 Interesting that there has been over 2000 views and nearly 160 replies about a subject that supposedly has no interest to most people.
I suspect that many people are seriously considering changing to a Mac and posts like this attract their attention. All the views are just from members with their popcorn ready, getting settled in to watch a potential bun fight brew.
