582183 2007-08-22 15:02:00 Ok fair enough, I should have watched those videos . The last one was hilarious "How am I supposed to pay my rent???"

I wasn't criticizing you or your school for picking Mac's or anything but the fact remains that Mac's are only really good for video's and music and that too not leaps and bounds ahead of a PC and that your kids are being taught on an OS which has 1/20 market share .

You say things might change but if they haven't done so for 20-30 years?? Hopefully the new MS OS out whenever is being re-written from scratch and should far surpass XP and Vista . I can't see people from places like Asia and Africa being able to afford Mac's can you? and thats where most of the economic growth is going to come from (and wearing a black turtleneck in high humidity:rolleyes::D)

582184 2007-08-22 18:42:00 You could just use a Windows PC with MYO, would seem to be the sensible option.

You could use MYOB on either, beeswax was asking how iMovie could be used for spreadsheets.

582185 2007-08-22 18:44:00 them cool.

In much the same way some poor fools would think designer labels and an Audi changes there status.

I was using that as an example to explain the rationale behind Apple's designs.

582186 2007-08-22 19:56:00 I think that the strength of iLife is that it is a unified package.
Arranging a musical score for iMovie in GarageBand is definitely useful.
I'd eventually like to see iLife to become more seem-less.
It is a fairly elegant package... but not irreplaceable.

Alternatives:
MS Movie Maker already onboard.
Picasa for iPhoto
picasa.google.co.nz

I haven't looked too much into Music or interactive DVD burning tools for PC.
Fruity Loops express is still around, not free, but very cool.
www.flstudio.com

Already it seems less to me.
Maybe you mean seamless?
Forgive me if I misunderstood.

582187 2007-08-22 20:39:00 Interesting that there has been over 2000 views and nearly 160 replies about a subject that supposedly has no interest to most people.
I suspect that many people are seriously considering changing to a Mac and posts like this attract their attention.

For the record I have not seen anyone have any problem changing to an Apple system or for that matter a Mac user going to Windows.
An increasingly number use both systems quite easily both at home and at work
It is no more difficult than driving a different car for the first time.

Can't see why you think that..

On one side of the coin the Mac can do everything the PC can apart from the gaming side of things.

On the other side due to the cost, power, configuration options and billions of available applications of the PC it is the pc that is much much better for video work.

Hell, You can have a second PC just for rendering for peanuts.

582191 2007-08-22 22:48:00 I don't have any money invested in software for any platform. I only use what comes with the OS or freeware. I have no hardware that can't be used on both platforms. I installed xp last nighton the mac, and goiung to give it a go for a couple of weeks doing my normal tasks. Will be trying this without using any third party software, just to see how far I can go.
Tinkering is about the one thing I miss with XP, which I will be looking forward to again

I like your take, Safari:) ;)
If the Mac platform really was as limiting as some people seem to think it is, sales of Apple hardware would be declining due to excessive customer returns rather than increasing in numbers from year to year.
