2007-08-18 21:37:00 | Sometimes I find a manual search in Windows Explorer is actually faster since the "search" function in XP home is bit of a joke considering I can usually find want I want while XP is still "looking" . I have XP Pro . | winmacguy (3367) | |

2007-08-19 10:38:00 | Sometimes I find a manual search in Windows Explorer is actually faster since the "search" function in XP home is bit of a joke considering I can usually find want I want while XP is still "looking" . I have XP Pro . A manual search does'nt really help as I'm trying to find all bitmap files . Does your Task Manager open? Yes, the Task Manager opens without problems . I've run various scans for Virus's and Spyware, all scan results came back clean . The only thing I've done recently is hacked my Start Button to change the text, it may be a coinsidence but the Search has'nt worked since then . Any other ideas will be awesome . . . . . Thanks again for taking the time . . . . .

2007-08-19 10:45:00 | Do you happen to have TweakUi installed ? What did you do to "hack your start Button" as you mentioned ? If you do have TweakUI installed try This (www.helpwithwindows.com) If you dont have any of the above try this - click start/run type in sfc /scannow Note: the space after c /s You may be prompted for the XP CD as well, so have it handy. See if that helps

2007-08-19 11:05:00 | support.microsoft.com maybe this'll help or you could do a system restore I followed the advice in that link, but the file it wants me to install is asking for for me to load the XP home disc as it needs a file from there to install. I don't have the disc. All my System Restore points have been purged. Do you happen to have TweakUi installed ? What did you do to "hack your start Button" as you mentioned ? You may be prompted for the XP CD as well, so have it handy I used "ResHacker". Silly thing to do really, but I was just experimenting to see what the program could do. Again sorry I don't have the XP disc to hand. Would there be a Reg fix for this like the one's that enable Task Manager and Regedit? << sorry, thinking out loud :) Thanks again guys, top notch assistance *thumbsup*

2007-08-19 11:23:00 | Okay, try this (not having the os cd makes things tricky, but you may have the necessary files on your hard drive already) www.updatexp.com (You may have a hidden restore partition on your hdd, if your computer is a Dell/Compaq etc)
