582365 2007-08-18 04:39:00 I have begun to experience a problem with clicking on Links in e-mails.
I use Eudora as my e-mail software - I won't touch Microsoft's buggy insecure Outlook, and I use Firefox as my browser, I have an even lower opinion of IE than MS Outlook, which I consider crap.
In recent weeks, when I click on a web link in an e-mail, the Firefox comes up OK, but behind the Eudora window, which is reluctant to shrink, and I get the following Message;
"This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy.
Choose "Switch To" to activate the busy program and correct the problem"

If one takes the selection "Switch To", then the result is a new window opens, "about: blank " Microsoft Internet Explorer" which one then close -
"Firefox" has opened as expected behind all this lot.

On my system MS Internet Explorer and MS Outlook cannot access the internet, as I have them blocked in Zone Alarm.

As this is a relatively recent , and annoying occurrence, I can only assume that some Microsoft update has foisted this nonsense on me.

Any ideas as to how I can kill this unwelcome Microsoft intrusion permanently.

582366 2007-08-18 04:44:00 Make FF the default browser, if it isnt the default browser yet. This will save IE opening.

And make Eudora the default email client.

582370 2007-08-20 22:35:00 Thanks for your advice Speedy, unfortunately it is not the answer since Firefox is already the default Browser and Eudora the default e-mail software - have been ever since the computer was set up - It is bloody irritating to be steered towards IE when one clicks on a hyper-link.
I have no great love of MS products and sorely wish there was an operating system available that came without all the constant security glitches of Microsoft products - The bastards would rather get a new system in the market ready or not than do a proper job and sort out an existing product.
If they were suppliers of mechanical manufactured goods, they would have long gone out of business on product liability law suits.

582371 2007-08-20 22:54:00 If SP2 is installled.

Try add/remove programs / set program access and defaults.

Clear / untick enable access to this program opposite IE.

This will also remove its icon.

Do the same for the email client. (OE/Outlook etc).

Ever thought of trying Linux Ken? Its exactly the sort of frustrations that you're experiencing that drove me to Linux - I've never regretted the switch..

582374 2007-08-22 01:38:00 This problem has only reared its ugly head in the last couple of months, in fact I think it was probably after an upgrade of Firefox.
Before Firefox I was running Netscape, but I found the upgrade to version 8, would not retain bookmarks transferred from the earlier version, so I changed to Firefox.

I would dearly like to try Linux, I have a copy of Red Hat Linux, but the business Software I have to run on my computer (REI Master) will only run on Windows 2000Pro and XP Pro - the distributor has already advised his client base that the program is not compatible with Vista, and anyone thinking of buying a new computer should ensure they get XP Pro.

I am no fan of Microsoft, I think their quality control on their software is abysmal, they are in too much of a hurry to exploit new product development instead of following a sufficiently strict testing regime to ensure it is both stable and secure, and don't get me on my opinion of their unethical business practices, which in spite of breaking just about every western countries' laws of fair competition, they still manage to get away with it. The mooted action of forcing MS to split into two independent companies, one for operating systems and the other for applications would have gone someway to curing their dominance.
