2007-08-21 18:15:00 | Hi there... As this will make several moths we're trying, I hope someone will be able to help me !!!! When talking with a friend in Windows Live Messenger, we'd like to have "live discussions" > we're using a headphone > my friend can hear me but I can't hear him. I think the problem does not come from me because I can hear other sounds and when he's testing his mic, nothing happens... He's on Windows XP (don't know if thqt can be relevant but who knows...) That's it... Hope (again) that someone will be able to help me Thx Chani

2007-08-22 18:48:00 | yes, actually, we did... but when we test the microphone settings in the dialog box, nothing happens... and that's the issue... | Chani (12706) | |
2007-08-22 22:15:00 | My mate and I had similar problems way back and from memory had to disable firewall so I could hear him. It was really a pain so we downloaded and use Skype now to chat. You may care to do the same. | smithie 38 (6684) | |
2007-08-23 17:15:00 | about the firewall... was the problem that he did hear you and you did not hear him ? and then did YOU disable your firewall or him ? problem is that the issue is the same with skype... it really looks like if his headphone was recognized but not the mic... because he can hear me...

2007-08-23 21:41:00 | We could type messages okay on Messenger but could not make voice contact until both his and my firewall were disabled, which to us seemed strange. Thats why we went to Skype. You cannot hear your friend using headphones? but can you hear them just using your computer speakers?? I am getting out of my depth here so maybe someone with more knowledge can help you.

2007-08-24 17:40:00 | actually, my friend can hear me > his headphone (or speakers) and my mic work fine BUT when he speaks, I cannot hear him but I can hear other sound on my computer (when I received msg or music) BUT (again) when he tests is mic (he tried with 2 different ones) nothing happens... on the messenger test center. Normally, when you speek and it works fine, you can see a green bar progressing... it's the case when I talk but never when he talks ! and it's the same when we use MSN or Skype... HELPPPPP !!!!

2007-08-24 19:17:00 | tell him to right clik the little speaker icon in the sytsem tray lower right hand side of the screen then to clilk 'open volume control' in the menu that appears.....then to clik options/properties/recording and make sure that microphone is ticked ....then after clikin 'ok' to make suer mic is turned UP and NOT muted..... | drcspy (146) | |
2007-08-24 19:20:00 | and if his system still wont 'recognise' the prescense of the mic then to go back and right clik the speaker again and this time choose 'adjust audio properties/audio then make suer that the device listed for playback and recordign is the same for both...... also to ensure in his firewall that the messenger program you are trying to use is enabled to act as a 'server' ......
