(note: not via Outlook or other email software)

Here is copy my mail to Xtra (it's bleedin' 4am and I'm fed up with mail servers!!)

If you read the mail I got from the UK you'll get the scathing remark about 'homebrew"! and the suggestion they turn off their SSL (hahhahah - manic laughter fills the room)

Seriously - anyone else had problems like this?

QUOTE:
Sir or Madam,
I am using FTGate5 (www . ftgate . com) as my mail server .
Over the weekend Xtra changed their SMTP system port to 465 and required SSL to be used .
Xtra did not advise me, their customer of this change .

I reset my Outlook settings and my private emails (@ xtra) now come and go .

I reset my mail server to use port 465, address as send . xtra . co . nz and checked the "use SSL" .
My mail server now logs the following errors:

SSL Error Unknown 0009 0320
(see attached RTF log file from the mail server program)

The mail server company advises this refers to . microsoft . com/EN-US/library/aa380499 . aspx" target="_blank">msdn2 . microsoft . com and:

SEC_E_INCOMPLETE_CREDENTIALS: The credentials supplied were not complete and could not be verified . The context could not be initialized .

This means, I am told, Xtra's SSL certification is not valid . Outlook I am told is "very forgiving of errors such as this because it does not actually check the SSL certificate" .

My mail server software, I am told, uses Verisign approved SSL certification and the connection process with other SSL systems is very strict . No valid certificate = no comms .

Please advise how you can assist me with connecting properly with your SMTP server(s) .
Yours
Me

Hi,

The error code, according to MS, appears to be:
// The credentials supplied were not complete, and could not be verified .

So this implies that the server at the other end does not have a valid certificate . FTGate will not communicate with a server that does not have a valid certificate . Please get them to check that is really is a valid certificate from a reputable source and not a homebrew .

I would suggest telling your ISP to reinstate the non SSL version until such time as the problem can be resolved . Changing the service conditions with no-notice is not acceptable .

Regards
