583122 2007-08-20 09:45:00 I noticed that with xtras 'new' email system, that if your log into webmail, it is now called Yahoo7, and now makes no reference to xtra at all. Does that mean that we now have a contract with Yahoo7, which I assume is a different company to Xtra Yahoo. Apparently the new webmail now provides unlimited email storage. My problem is that can't anyone signup to one of these yahoo webmail accounts for free? I mean what are we paying xtra for our email account if they are contracting it out to a free email provider such as yahoo7. I mean everyone else can get one of these email accounts for free and don't have to use xtra. Also it now appears to be hosted offshore, instead of NZ, so it is slower and more clunky than their old system. robbyp (2751)

I think you will find that the YahooXtra brand has not been put on to the new webmail, I bet you will find over the next few days as they sort this out that they will fix the branding.

583124 2007-08-20 09:53:00 You have to pay to get POP access to Yahoo and you get an @Yahoo email address if you sign up directly with Yahoo. PaulD (232)

I don't know, but I do know that you do get free pop access with Gmail. POP access to Xtra must also be done when you connect to Xtra as your ISP, as XTra block other ISPs accessing their POP server. Maybe with this change, outside ISPs can now connect to Yahoos pop server?

583126 2007-08-20 10:23:00 POP access to a Yahoo account needs Mail Plus @ US$19.99 per year. With the change to Xtra branded Yahoo Mail you will be able to POP your mail from other ISPs. Any talk of Xtra servers is now past tense. PaulD (232)

I just tried accessing pop3.xtra.co.nz through another ISP, and it lets me download my email!!!
Maybe Xtra haven't yet got around to blocking it, or it is a flaw in their new system. This means that you can now check your Xtra email address on a Vodafone smartphone :)

Wrong. I have used Yahoo POP access for yonks and still do. It stopped working recently but I just needed to change ports (and add SSL Encryption) like they stated.

Oh and the logo has been branded with Yahoo!Xtra even though it's a Yahoo email

What region is your Yahoo account in (@yahoo.what)? Apparently some Yahoo areas allow POP access on free mail some don't.

Which is the reason for Xtra pasting there crap logo in my inbox.

583131 2007-08-21 12:14:00 XTra block other ISPs accessing their POP server.

You had to sign up for xtra secure remote access ($2.50 a month) to utilise their pop3 server from other ISP. Then it became free, I guess now it doesn't even matter anymore.
