583013 2007-08-20 06:39:00 I have the internet through a Linksys router (WRT54GL) and on my computer I have a Linksys Wireless Network Monitor (WMP54G) which looks like this:

It should display this enabled icon in the notifications area:

However, when I turn on my PC or reboot, it only displays as the inactive icon:

This is strange because it should connect automatically.
I usually have to go Start > Run > "services.msc" and restart the WMP54G service for the icon to activate.

Some people have said it has something to do with the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration, and so I've tried disabling that, but everytime I restart/turn on the PC, it is enabled again.

Please help me, this is extremely frustrating!

Thanks.

583014 2007-08-20 09:28:00 So, what exactly are you trying to connect to it??

I take it, you have another computer (or computers), with PCI / USB wireless somewhere else in the house??

Shouldnt it display that notification icon (like in the 2nd pic u posted) ONCE something is connected to it??

Like another computer?

You didnt say anything about any other computer/s that you're trying to connect to it.

583015 2007-08-20 09:38:00 I am trying to connect to the Wireless Network, which it does, but the Monitor does not enable itself automatically as it should.

I am trying to connect to the router which is connected to the main computer. That is what my wireless connects to.
I am the only one who uses the Linksys Wireless Network Monitor.
Another computer (laptop) uses the Windows configuration, while the main PC just connects through the router.

Basically I just want to know why the Wireless Network Monitor is not automatically turning on/enabling itself when the PC has been turned on/rebooted.

You wouldnt get on the net would you?

Speedy, I think think his problem is that he can't automatically connect to the Internet, he as to do it manually. There is nothing wrong with being able to use the web once it is working.

Chris, have you made sure that whatever software you run is designed to start at start-up if possible? Check if the Wireless Network Monitor doesn;t have an option somewhere to "start at re-boot or wake-up" or something similar.

Firstly, it used to connect automatically, before I had my PC reformatted, so it should! Now I have to open services and restart it for the monitor to enable. Secondly, no, as far as I know, there is no option like that. It would make things much easier if it did! Thanks for your help.

Check this out (forums.linksys.com)

Will do, I'll get back here after I try that out. Thanks.

It is, and every time I do the services thing, I turn the Wireless Zero Configuration thing to disabled, but it changes back after I reboot/start up my PC!
