582891 2007-08-20 02:24:00 Hello PC World :D.

I am having a very serious problem with my computer.

I was using my computer no problem and I shut it down over night (around 9pm). I woke up in the morning around 11am and went to turn it on. When i hit the power button my comp turns on but the monitor stays in standby mode. I thought something was wrong so I hit the power switch on my psu and turned it off. Left it off for about 10 mins then turned it back on, still i had the same problem. Next my brother flipped the red watt switch in the back to the lower level. When it is switched like the the computer turns on, shows the Asus screen, then shuts down after about 3 seconds. But in the normal wattage the monitor just dosent react to the computer turning on.

Any suggestions?

All help is appreciated

You mean the switch that switches it from 110 - 230v??

On the back of the PSU/case?

It's NOT a good idea to touch this . It most probably killed the mobo .

Its either damaged the MB as speedy pointed out, or if you are lucky? it will have damaged the Power Supply only.

Either way theres a hardware fault. The 110V is for the USA. Not NZ.

Could have a been a monitor problem . Or graphics in the PC . Too late to diagnose now .
Your brother, having fried it, can now buy you a new PC .

Seriously though, if you had a good quality PSU, you might be lucky and its only that that he killed, but its quite likely to have taken out other components in the PC too .

Never let someone who has no idea what they are doing mess with it .
