582896 2007-08-20 03:02:00 I know there is another thread about the Xtra Bubble debacle but this is my problem: Using windows XP home edition I have been using Thunderbird as my e-mail programme but because SMPT won't recognise my password I have had to revert to Outlook express to send any e-mails.
Does anyone know how I can transfer all of my e-mail addresses from Thunderbird to Outlook Express without have to re-create them all over again ?
Thanks.

582897 2007-08-20 03:20:00 Open TB's address book . Go to File/Export and select a comma delimited file . Note its name and location . Open IE and look for the Import option (under File?) and tell it you want the address book in comma delimited form and point it to your exported file and cross your fingers!

But I can't fathom how IE's smtp works but not TB's . The smtp server doesn't care which client you are using . It just looks for the right protocol and data on the right port . Worth you doing another comparison of smtp server settings between the two?? Make sure you check security/port settings carefully .

Good luck .

582898 2007-08-20 03:46:00 Hang on, hang on ... I had this problem on my father's laptop (WinXP/Thunderbird), and fixed it by turning the SMTP password OFF. This is in Tools -> Account Settings, choose Outgoing Server on the left, click on your Xtra smtp server, click Edit and uncheck Use name and password. Worked fine for me! davehartley (3487)

Thanks a lot Dave. Tried this and works fine. It appears the password has somehow gotten corrupted with Xtra messing about. I am now able to go back to making Thunderbird my default e-mail and can leave the address lists where they are. Again many thanks to you both for help.

582901 2007-08-20 04:45:00 What version of TB are u using?

Looks like this is a common prob with TB, especially 2.0.0.6

I dont know what the latest version is, I dont use it.

Have a read of this (kb.mozillazine.org)

I see in your first post you put in smpt, its smtp.

You sure, you typed in smtp?

All very interesting. Looks as though I am blaming Xtra for my problem. Funny it should happen at the same time as all this bubble thing going on. Looks as though it was thunderbird that did it. My version is 2.0.0.6.
Do you recommend I go back to outlook express and leave this smtp thing alone ? All this mind boggling stuff is a bit much for an octogenarian like me. Thanks for your interest and help .

582903 2007-08-20 08:59:00 I don't think it's anything to do with Thunderbird -- it's all Xtra "playing" with their servers. I've seen posts saying the SMTP server's name has been changed ... but mine works fine with the one I've always had, so go figure that one! :)

Thunderbird (IMHO) blows Outlook Express out of the water. Stick with it!

Up to you. I dont use TB myself, and I'm not on Xtra.

So, wouldnt know whether its a TB or Xtra prob.

But since Xtra is having probs at the mo, if you go back to OE, you may still have the same prob, with sending emails.

Outlook works just fine. Its simple and has very good features and syncs to my Ipaq pretty well. I've used TB and its fine too but I'd still choose Outlook anyday.
