584366 2007-08-25 20:57:00 I plan on going SLi, so I really want a SLi capable mobo.

But I have a question, is the 8800GTS 320mb graphic card a decent buy?

Cheers!

584367 2007-08-25 21:16:00 The 320MB vs the 640MB really all depends on what resolution you will be running...

1600x1200 and above they say the 640MB is better and also if you run max AA and AF the 640MB is better. Here is a really good explanation: www.anandtech.com

But yes, depending on the resolution it is.

584368 2007-08-25 22:59:00 Im satisfied with 1024x768 to be honest. If anything, I doubt I´ll be going over 1280.

Thank you very much for the help The End Of Reality, I appreciate it very much.

I think I´ll go for the 320mb version, as it looks like it will fit the bill.

Cheers

584369 2007-08-25 23:05:00 Nvidia is releasing the G92 end of Oct, so the current 88xx series will drop prices greatly. I wont get a cheap $100 card for now and get the 88GTX come Oct/Nov.

oops, didnt see you were resolution limited to 10x7, GTS would probably be ok for you.

584370 2007-08-26 01:45:00 Ok, the 320MB GTS will be fine then.

Makes it even more value over 2 8600s...

584371 2007-08-26 03:14:00 It always surprises me that there are people out there who still insist on building a "budget" gaming system. In all honesty if you are at all serious about your gaming then the first thing you will know is that budget and gaming do not go together. Having said that you specs aren't too bad.

Personally I would ditch the AMD chip and go for a Core2Duo and sub the 8600for a full blown 8800 and don't even bother with a SLI setup with 2 mid range cards (those being the 8600's)

Just my opinion.

584372 2007-08-26 03:34:00 Yes, I agree, budget and gaming don't mix...

But on the AMD/Intel theory you have, look at Pricespy and look at benchmarking sites, the AMD X2 6000+ is about the same price as the C2D E6550 and then look at the benchmarks and you will see that the 6000 is a tad faster in most apps...

Also note that the C2D is clocked @2.33 and the AM2 @3Ghz......its quite easy to see which has the better OC headroom, the C2D would pawn the AM2.

584375 2007-08-26 14:32:00 Budget and gaming can go together hand in hand. I´ve been gaming since 1987, so you can consider me an "old school" gamer. (I still like avoid the noid =)

But not all of us need 100fps, 1600x1200 resolution or all setting maxed out plus 16x aa etc.

I have an Xbox 360, which I enjoy. But there are a few games that are a lot better on the PC then the 360.

So I don´t need the best of the best. Not to mention, a lot of my favorite games are a couple of years old.

Cheers
