583886 2007-08-23 00:05:00 If you really don't want to flash the BIOS or can't identify the motherboard a cheap IDE controller would be an option.

Something like this (ascent.co.nz) would do the job. If you shop around you might even me able to find one cheaper.

583888 2007-08-23 07:31:00 Did you install XP and then install the SP's afterwards? If so, that is your answer. XP vanilla could not create partitions greater than ~136 gigs. You can either slip-stream your XP vanilla OS disk with SP2 and then reinstall, or just simply use the left over space as a separate partition. Just format it using the XP disk management console. 583889 2007-08-23 07:58:00 I was actually trying to use the 320GB for storage, m running out of space for my downloads :D
Heres another pic of the MB Pic ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/MB-P3a . jpg" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz) details using astra32
See if you can decide what the MB model is?

cheers

583890 2007-08-23 08:02:00 I was actually trying to use the 320GB for storageAh well, there goes that theory ... :p

Hmm ... so why did you say it was the primary master then? Have you installed the OS on a primary slave or secondary master?

583891 2007-08-23 08:13:00 At first I was going to use it as a primary master drive for the P3 machine, thats why I said it only shows as primary master 136GB in the BIOS! ronyville (10611)

Is the whole machine IBM? if so, what's the model number?

Looks like your mobo is OEM for IBM by someone else (USI?) . .

Or if you got a photo/ description of anything written on the actual board?

583894 2007-08-23 08:55:00 This is wierd, I hooked it up as a primary slave and the BIOS shows me only 136GB, but i let the pc boot up and in the disk management it shows me the full capacity . . . :( Ah well, i guess as long as I get to use the full HD space m happy

Thanks for all your help guys . . my apologies for not checking the disk management part in the first place!

583895 2007-08-23 09:23:00 Because the BIOS would have to see all of it, before an OS will see all of it.Not correct - this actually depends what OS you're using. Linux will quite happily use see & use whole drive, no matter what the BIOS thinks. The only time you have issues is if the OS actually accesses the drive via the BIOS - which windows seems to like doing. If I recall correctly it can see the whole drive on some BIOSes, but not all. You'll also need at least XP SP1 - anything lower and you're stuffed.

If the OS accesses the IDE controller directly, you're fine.
