| 585056 | 2007-08-27 07:18:00 | Hello members I have setup a home network(mshome, workgroup) wit the main machine through cable to the WAG54GP2 router/modem. There are two more machines on wireless to the router. One is on a Netgear WG311 PCi Adapter and the other with a Linksys WMP54G Pci to the above router. I have good connection to the Netgear machine through my Network Places but non at all to the Linksys computer, except through :start-run and type; \\192.168.xxx.xxx. I have done the file and printer sharing on both wireless machines. I obviously can't print from the Linksys machine(except on a lucky day). All machines on XP PRO SP2. DHCP is set up manualy with fixed IP's. Would someone be able to help me on this? Thanks NT |

| 585058 | 2007-08-27 07:56:00 | Network Magic works for XP and Vista. You install it on each machine in your network and it sorts out things rather well. There is a free version which is fully functional for a week after that it is limited somewhat. http://www1.networkmagic.com/ | CliveM (6007) |

Hi Speedy, hi Clive Thanks Speedy I don't quite get it when you say;change both workgroup names? And Clive, I tried Network magic for a day or two and I had troubles there too. Smetimes I could see and access the shared folders and other times not. So, at the end I thought that is not helping me much and deinstalled it. Interestingly the internet works fine on all machines! Any other toughts that would get me further? Thanks NT |

Thanks NT Well when you said this I have setup a home network(mshome, workgroup) If you right mouse on my computer / properties / computer name, is the name on both computers the same? Alongside Workgroup? It looks like both have MSHOME as the workgroup name. |

| 585061 | 2007-08-27 09:26:00 | If speedy's suggestion doesn't fix it have a look at This Forum (forums.techguy.org) the person has the exact type of problem & answer that worked in his case.Note: he is using laptops, but same problem. If I read your original request for help right, some times things work [Quote] I obviously can't print from the Linksys machine(except on a lucky day).[End] if it works some times then not others is not the workgroup, if it was incorrect it would never work. NOTE: the fix in the other forum alters the reg, so make a restore point BEFORE trying it if you need to. That way if it screws up at least you can restore to how it is now. |
