584810 2007-08-26 06:39:00 I have just bought a new Pioneer DVR-212 SATA burner but I had to get an IDE to SATA converter. It appears to be all plugged up ok, but windows cant see it. When I first turn on the computer and it goes through that testing stage, it shows the Pioneer drive after the two hard drives. But when I look in "My computer" its not there.
Does this look like a bios upgrade is needed?
Or is it something else I havent thought of?
Any help appreciated.

584811 2007-08-26 07:14:00 Make sure IDE2 (Secondary IDE, Master) is enabled in the BIOS or IDE3 (Secondary IDE, Slave). Make sure it says the manufacturer of the drive and other details etc, corresponding to the drive (eg my new Samsung DVD-RW drive says SamsungCorp???. or something. This will tell you whether the drive has been correctly installed or not.

Obviously, make sure all IDE and power leads arte firmly connnected to the drive.

Hope I could help!

584812 2007-08-26 10:04:00 Did a driver disk come with your ide-sata converter? feersumendjinn (64)
584813 2007-08-26 11:54:00 No disk. There was a small card the size of a matchbox with IDE plug on the bottom and sata's on top. *Sparky* (311)
584814 2007-08-26 12:04:00 U can see the converter here www.trademe.co.nz *Sparky* (311)
584815 2007-08-26 12:13:00 Check to see if the drive is showing up in Device Manager.
If not check if there are any devices with an exclamation mark on them as they will need a driver.

If it is showing there then right-click My Computer icon on the desktop and go to Manage.
Check under Disk Management to see if the drive is there as it may be trying to use a drive letter that is already in use.

I have noticed though,
I have probably restarted about 15 times today and the DVR drive doesnt always show in the post test thingy.

584817 2007-08-26 22:06:00 Sounds like a dodgy adapter.

I know when I tried adapters for converting my IDE DVD drives to SATA, they didn't work at all and ended up getting a SATA burner.

Just curious as to why you got a SATA burner if you only have IDE connectors on your m/board.

That was my immediate thought. An IDE drive would have given no trouble

584819 2007-08-27 05:51:00 Possibly a dumb question but is your power lead plugged in? (looks like a floppy drive plug/socket in your photo). :D feersumendjinn (64)
