584484 2007-08-25 06:34:00 I've been on this all day. I bought a new Linksys WAG54G Wireless-G All in one ADSL Router and I've tried everything to try and get it to conect to the internet. I'm conected via the Ethernet cable to the modem and my Dynalink Modem Router works by the same method.
The first Linksys I took back because the Ethernet lights did not light up, this one they do, but the internet light does not light up. I'm not sure what else I have to do to get it to conect. Thought it would just be a plug and play but no. I've tried running the ISP disc again, but that does not work either. Any ideas? Please? I'm desperate to get this going and I'm just getting further behind in my work etc. Have not even attempted to use it wireless yet.

584485 2007-08-25 06:49:00 1st dont use the ISP disc, that doesn't always work.

You may need to enter the routers settings by a web browser, the manual that came with the router will tell you what the address is, Eg; http://192.168.1.1 go to the wan settings, or if you have a wizard use that, manually enter your username and password.
Xtra's for example youruser.xadsl@xtra.co.nz followed by your password.

Click apply or what ever else there is to hold the settings.

Make sure the Statis says "connected" or similar wording.

If still not connecting make sure the firewall is not blocking it.

PS: just downloaded the manual, on the downloaded version its page 19 under PPPoE setting your user name and password. IP is right as above.

584486 2007-08-25 06:54:00 I know I'm not going to be any help- but I bought that model a few months ago and it was hell to set up... the disk was worse than useless.

I have no idea what I did to make it work sorry... it's a bit like linux, just keep at it with dogged determination and you'll get there.

(Well- I thought it might make you feel better that it's not just you!)

584487 2007-08-25 07:02:00 Yeah I'm ready to take it back! There is no setup help at all on the disc, just a PDF and no setup manual at all. I just don't know what else to do, very frustrated. Why don't they give you a start up disc telling you what you need to do? I bought this model after reading someones advice on this website, so thought I had done my home work. Now I've wasted all day on it! :help: Danger (287)
584488 2007-08-25 07:05:00 The PDF more than likely is the Manual, read my post above wainuitech (129)
584489 2007-08-25 07:32:00 I tried entering the IP address as above but no go.
The PDF tells you to go on line to configure the modem, thats the problem, I can't connect to the interenet with the modem.

584490 2007-08-25 07:34:00 I'm sorry, can you please explain the WAN settings? To date I have not attempted to connect wireless, just via ethernet. The problem seems to be the modem is not connecting to the internet. It is connecting to my computer. Danger (287)
584491 2007-08-25 08:25:00 Ok, shouldn't be to much trouble ( famous last words )

You gave the Router thats good .

Assuming ( yeah Yeah I know, never assume  ) you have This ( . linksys . com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=UK%2FLayout&cid=1172712890121&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=9012163067B05" target="_blank">www-uk . linksys . com)
router . Download the manual if you like assuming its the right Router, right hand side, user guide .
Then you dont need the actual internet to access the setting in the router .

(Plain english version)The modem is what connects you to the internet, the router simply dishes out address's to each PC on the network .

The telephone line connects into the plug called Line> the ethernet leads connect into 1-4 in the back .

Try to see if the router and PC are seeing one another .

Click start/run/ type in cmd Enter/ok then type in ipconfig you should get back an IP address of 192 . 168 . 1 . ? Subnet Mask 255 . 255 . 255 . 0 with gateway of 192 . 168 . 1 . 1 If you dont get this sort of readings then the PC is not talking to the router . Once you are in the settings look for Internet setup, figure 5-7 in the manual .

Come back if after the details are entered if its still not working . Someone may be able to help further, I cant tonight as I'm out to a party,- late already meant to be there 20 minutes ago- hmmmmmm - setting up a network Pis***ed could be interesting . :stare:

584492 2007-08-25 08:46:00 Thanks man, downloading it now. Hope its not what I already got. Danger (287)
584493 2007-08-25 09:04:00 I also downloaded something called 'Easylinkconnect' from the Linksys site . . . helps you set up a network . I honestly can't remember if it was much help :waughh:

So on the wireless router you should have ethernet lead plugged in to no 1-4 yellow plugs, other end of course to ethernet on comp . Phone plugged in to plug on left (believe me- I missed this once!)

Have you actually set up a LAN (local area network) under network connections in your control panel?

I am happy to go through and check how I've got my settings if it will help you . . . but I'm not great with routers at the best of times . . . one piece of hardware I hate :annoyed:
