585275 2007-08-28 01:44:00 OK I stand corrected, I looked on the XFX site and yes my GPU power supply has 6 pins, no idea where I got 4 from

Again, I tried the Enermax PSU and the GTS in my old computer and had the the same BIOS error. The original graphics card and PSU are back in it and my old computer runs fine, no BIOS errors what so ever.

I just HAD to build my own computer....(sigh) :waughh:

I'll do some testing after work tonight, I'll take the RAM, GPU etc from my old computer and put them in my new computer, test and report back.

In that case it may well be a faulty PSU or graphics card . But there is no troubleshooting thing that's easier to do than run the memory tester . If it passes this, you need to do a process of elimination:

- Old graphics card + enermax PSU
- 8800GTS + old PSU (if it's more than 450w or so it's worth trying, to rule out the card, not to use permanently)

From these two tests you should be able to determine if it's a dodgy PSU or graphics card, and return the offending part under warranty . Let us know how it goes before you do this though, as you will probably be charged a fee if you return something that isn't faulty .

585277 2007-08-28 01:59:00 Have you looked at a PSU that conforms to the PCIe v2.0 standard? Or a Radeon 2900XT? The 8pin PCIe connector is a 8pin connector not two 4pins joined together. Your getting confused with the 8pin 12v connector used on the motherboard.

I agree with George, never seen a 8800 with a 4pin connector, look again.

FTR - 6 pin pcie = 75w, 8 pin pcie = 150w, only the radeon 2900xt requires the 8pin pcie connector at present that I know of.

585278 2007-08-28 02:17:00 Although it only needs it if you plan on overclocking the card. george12 (7)

Why, yes... It is....

I've installed Vista on my new system and the GPU on my old computer is a GeForce 7300LE, will that crappy old GPU work with Vista?
Also the PSU in my old computer is only 400W and I don't recall seeing a 6 pin connector on it for the GTS.

585282 2007-08-28 05:16:00 Yes you did, you even put it in quotes ***!

Its not an 8 pin . Its 2 4pin joined together . Look closely - you can separate them .

So how does that say its his bloody PCIE connector?

What is this old computer anyway? Specifically what motherboard has it got in it?

And what graphics card is this? Brand I mean, before someone accuses me of being thick again . . . . . . . . . .

My old computer is an HP m7369a it uses an ECS RC410-M motherboard. The graphics card is a Foxconn GeForce 7300LE.

I've put the 7300LE in my new computer and it started up, no BIOS errors at all. The right processor and right amount of RAM is being shown in the System window.
Should I assume that my GTS is a dud? Or should I proceed to test the RAM?
