| 584728 | 2007-08-26 04:02:00 | Thanks for the links zqwerty but they seemed to apply to Fresh installs of XP. Does this also apply to regular security updates?? I didnt see that mentioned anywhere. Meg |

| 584731 | 2007-08-26 04:35:00 | Some of the denials are on old installs..and I don't have too many friends on Vista yet..I can count them on one finger...but I'm not telling which finger it is. <did I say that?> Anyway...they say it's Tuesday now for the fix to be working right..that's the US Tuesday, not on the other side of the International Date Line. |

| 584732 | 2007-08-26 05:56:00 | The irony is that the majority of 'ordinary' folk don't even need the XML core services updates. If you really do need it then try going to the MS download site www.microsoft.com and see if you can download it from there to HDD, and then install. My personal recommendation is to uninstall and expunge WGA and Validation and all that crap completely from the system and turn off Automatic Updates in Security Centre as recommended by Brian Livingston of "Windows Secrets". Then if you really want to install security updates use the Secunia Software Inspector to analyse your particular system, and it will tell you which updates your system is missing. secunia.com Then you can go to the MS download site as above and get only what you want, not what MS thinks it will install willy-nilly. Automatic updates is just a pain............... :) |

| 584735 | 2007-08-27 11:52:00 | HI Meg, No you are not the only one , My pc is running XP as well and im having the same problems as you have described. I have rebooted to see if it would install and keep getting the same messages .............it simply wont go away that update shield............ I followed this guys advice and it worked for me: "Update KB936181 fails to install - jaybart 17-Aug-07 01:20:05 A-HA! It seems the problem has been resolved- so I'll mention for the benefit of any other non-tech types like me who look at this board.. In my case, during the trial routines of uninstalling previous versions (and the current version 936181) using Add or Remove Programs, I somehow overlooked the little extra program in the Programs list "Msxml 4.0 Parser (0.06mb)" that was positioned immediately below the other Msxml 4.0 installations. I've no idea what a Parser is or does, but after deleting this (in addition to all previous versions of msxml 4.0 --including 936181-- ) it seems I was finally able to download and install 936181 correctly using the auto update function- the annoying yellow shield is gone now, after having re-booted..and the microsoft update site tells me there are no outstanding patches needed. Anyways thats how it was resolved." www.eggheadcafe.com My pesky yellow sheild has gone, I am happy :) Hope it works for you too Malcs Meg |
