584532 2007-08-27 02:23:00 Thanks to everyone who responded to my posts. I downloaded and burnt to CD CCleaner, Shoot the messanger, Rogue Remover, Trojan Remover, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and Zone Alarm. Also the Norton Removal Tool, and the latest AVG anti-virus.
Armed with that I spent 2 1/2 hours installing, scanning, updating, scanning again and at the end we had removed 9 Trojans and a bit of spyware.
When I left, the neighbours (who say a very big thank you to you all) had email and web access. I still have Ad-Aware not wanting to update or scan, but I'll leave that for another day.
Now I just have to make sure they keep things up to date and do their scans.
On my system I have used Spybot,Ad-Aware,Zone Alarm and AVG for years, and I've never had a problem with viruss (what's the plural of virus?), spam, or other nasties. I was blown away by how much stuff was on their PC when all they had done was try to connect to the internet for the first time. I've just got to convince them that it won't always be that scary!
Again, thanks to you all and I'll leave the next problem post for a few days!!
Graham.
