2007-08-25 11:43:00 | Thanks guys, I've been trying all sorts for hours. I'm going to try what Safari has suggested, because I don't really know any better. I do have a LAN setup and thats what I'm on now with my Dynalink. Enjoy your party dude. And I won't just dissapear once this is resolved. I will let you know once its sorted or not. So if you could check in tomorrow that would be appreciated.

2007-08-25 11:56:00 | Woo hoo that did it yahoo thank you so much!!!! I think it was the Select RFC 2364 PPPoA VPI 0 VCI 100 That made all the difference because I tried everything else but mostly I was just guessing. I'm so happy, now I can go ride my dirt bike tomorrow instead of spending another day getting this sorted. I couldn't find the IP Dynamic DNS Enabled G.DMT settings and I'm still to get the wireless part going, but thats a big step in the right direction. If anyone has any added settings that I should configure for security that would be a big help. I would like to buy you guys a beer, I've been so frustrated! Thanks again guys. You all helped in some way or else I would have just given up.

2007-08-25 12:05:00 | Gald to hear you have it going. Those are the standard settings for all routers to connect to the telecom network regardless of the make or model The most important are PPPoA VPI 0 VCI 100 if these are not correct you won't get connected. The other settings are usually set as default anyway so if it is working don't worry about them.

2007-08-25 12:28:00 | glad you git it sorted, its all easy once it goes rigth . Just saw your offer of a beer - no thanks, thsi is blury enough as it is thanks . found out something yesterday also, c-net are using the username/password of "root" on their router . funny how admin, which is the usual log in wouldn't work :groan: Now if xtar can keep the adsl going 24/7 every one would be happier, I use telstra's cable so slightly differenrt kettle of fish . Oh hell might have to get that beer now . ;) Oh damn the Media center just crashed this is gonna be fun:groan:

2007-08-25 20:30:00 | Just a quick note here . . . . if you are buying routers, make sure you get a modem/router, not just a router . I went into the shop yesterday and was looking at this Netgear router (thinking sweet, this is cheaper than the ol D-Link, and apparently better too) . The shop assistant then informed me 'no sir (gotta love how they call riffraff like me sir :p), that is only a router, not a modem/router, you will need this model' . It was more expensive too dammit . And I thought I knew what the heck I was looking for and doing . . . Danger, as far as the wireless setup, make sure you enable (at the very minimum) WEP . THis will help deter any people in the vicinity from hooking up to your wireless router and obtaining files from your network, and free broadband (aka war driving) . I bought a Belkin yesterday, found it very easy (following instructions) to do this, and even have it set up to allow only certain MAC addresses (of my laptop for instance) .

2007-08-26 05:17:00 | Thanks Myth, I have the wireless connection sorted but still have the security to set up. Have it disabled until I do so. I couldn't get the Mac addresses thing to work for some reason, but it was 3.30am by the time I got that far. :dogeye: | Danger (287) | |
