584869 2007-08-26 12:56:00 Hi. I'm having trouble printing from my client PC (I'll call it OldPC) to the printer attached to the other PC on the network (I'll call it NewPC). It's been working until recently when I installed Vista Ultimate 32bit on NewPC in a dualboot setup. Now it doesn't print from OldPC when NewPC is in either XP or Vista. I tried calling the Vista PC NewPC as well under Computer Name which may have just confised things for OldPC when it connected

Some details:

- All systems have the workgroup set as 'HOME'
- The OSes on the dualboot PC with the printer are called NewPC (the original XP boot) and NewPCvista respectively at this time
- I can print fine from NewPC (the one with the printer) in both XP and Vista.
- I can share files just fine between OldPC and NewPC/NewPCvista (had to install the LLMD Respondable patch or whatever it was called to the OldPC so it showed up properly)

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

584870 2007-08-26 22:20:00 Have you set the printer to share?
Have you checked Vista is set to HOME Workgroup, it is not that by default.

Can you ping newpc from oldpc and visa versa?
If printer is set to share, Does it show on both PC's in Network Places/Entire Network/Microsoft Windows Network/Workgroup/PC Name ?

Name of the two PC's should not matter too much, mine are PC1 PC2 PC3 etc
I can ping pc1 or ping 10.0.0.1 either should work

Just some things to look at, hope it works

If all PCs can see each other, do I still need to ping? Also, could you clarify the part about "If printer is set to share, Does it show on both PC's in Network Places/Entire Network/Microsoft Windows Network/Workgroup/PC Name ?" Cheers

Try removing IPv6 from the network card in Vista!

What would be the ramifications of doing so, if any? And you mean going into the properties of the network adapter, and under Advanced tab disabling "Large Send Offload V2 (IPv6)" in the list?

584873 2007-08-27 14:51:00 Removing IPv6 would not present any ramifications currently because very very few websites use that standard. So unless you're unlucky enough to stumble onto one of those rare ones, disabling IPv6 won't affect you for atleast a couple of years. beeswax34 (63)

I had troubles with a printer before and the reason was the media type setting on the network card. It has to be the same as on the printer. Network connection- right click-properties-configure-advanced-media type.
