584825 2007-08-26 07:30:00 While trying to uninstall AVG, the following message popped up:
"Local machine:installation failed.
Initialization:
Warning: Windows Firewall activity checking failed.
Not enough storage is available to complete the operation.(14)
Installation
Error: Action failed for the file avgmsvr.exe.stopping service.......
Service Avg 7 Alrt failed to progress during stopping at checpoint 3
(wait hint 30100ms) in 111578ms"

AVG would not uninstall. What does it all mean?
Thanks for your help. Graham.

584827 2007-08-26 08:20:00 I had installed it from last November's PC World CD.
Will try the info you posted. Many thanks,
Graham.

584828 2007-08-27 02:23:00 Thanks to everyone who responded to my posts. I downloaded and burnt to CD CCleaner, Shoot the messanger, Rogue Remover, Trojan Remover, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and Zone Alarm. Also the Norton Removal Tool, and the latest AVG anti-virus.
Armed with that I spent 2 1/2 hours installing, scanning, updating, scanning again and at the end we had removed 9 Trojans and a bit of spyware.
When I left, the neighbours (who say a very big thank you to you all) had email and web access. I still have Ad-Aware not wanting to update or scan, but I'll leave that for another day.
Now I just have to make sure they keep things up to date and do their scans.
On my system I have used Spybot,Ad-Aware,Zone Alarm and AVG for years, and I've never had a problem with viruss (what's the plural of virus?), spam, or other nasties. I was blown away by how much stuff was on their PC when all they had done was try to connect to the internet for the first time. I've just got to convince them that it won't always be that scary!
Again, thanks to you all and I'll leave the next problem post for a few days!!
Graham.

584829 2007-08-27 04:59:00 If you got Ad-Aware 2007, get rid of it and get the 2006 version. The 2007 has far too many bugs and wont even scan on many occasions. beeswax34 (63)
584830 2007-08-27 05:27:00 Thanks for that, it wouldn't scan or update after loading, so will probably do as you suggest. I'm using the older version myself. Grimy (3041)
584831 2007-08-27 05:38:00 I still have Ad-Aware not wanting to update or scan, but

Don't use version 2007, stick with SE Personal.
