584751 2007-08-26 05:55:00 I have several DVD's that wont play on my new computer. How do I download them onto my old computer so that I can then send the video to my new one or alternatively make a new disc using something that my new computer recognises. Clod (7853)
584752 2007-08-26 06:03:00 It sounds as if the old CDs have not been finalised.I am not sure if you can finalise them on yr old machine now or not.then they will play in any player. You should be able to copy the disks on yr old machine and finalise the new copy. Also what happens in yr new box,can you see the files on the CD if you can then try dragging a file to yr desktop and see if it will play. kjaada (253)
584753 2007-08-26 06:05:00 You could try ripping them using Handbrake. winmacguy (3367)
584754 2007-08-26 06:14:00 I'm learning slowly but how do I copy them to my old machine, or is that what hanbrake does ? Clod (7853)
584755 2007-08-26 06:17:00 Handbrake does the same thing as when you rip a music CD to MP3 format except it uses either MP4 or H.264 (which ever you prefer). You can then copy the resulting file over. I am not sure if it is the answer to what your looking for but it is what I would do as it allows you to keep the DVD file on your computer without taking up as much space. winmacguy (3367)
584756 2007-08-26 06:21:00 I have several DVD's that wont play on my new computer. How do I download them onto my old computer so that I can then send the video to my new one or alternatively make a new disc using something that my new computer recognises.

Are you trying to play the physical DVD disk on your computer or a copied file of the DVD?

584757 2007-08-26 06:29:00 The DVD Disk. Its strange that some do play on the new computer and some dont. The only difference I can think is that some were burned wit Nero and some with Intervideo. Clod (7853)
584758 2007-08-26 06:31:00 It may be something to do with the DVD drive in the newer computer. winmacguy (3367)
584759 2007-08-26 06:36:00 Yeah, thats why I want to download to the old computer then send the ones that dont work to the new computer. Clod (7853)
584760 2007-08-26 22:11:00 I have not used handbrake but I have used DVD Shrink.
If your old PC can read and play them then DVD Shrink will rip the DVD's to your HDD.
You can then reburn them or transfer them maybe via network to the new PC, or just unplug the HDD and plug it into the New PC (Master/Slave settings applied)

You can reburn with DVD Shrink or copy to HDD then burn it with DVD Shrink.
If your New PC's DVD player is working it should be able to read the re-burned version.
