| 584522 | 2007-08-25 08:37:00 | Hi, Just helping a neighbour set up their Clear Net dial up connection. They can get email access, but not Internet (you have to try to open the Internet connection first, if you try email first it has an error message-which I will check and write down tomorrow). When opening explorer the Clear homepage opens but when you type in _say, google- the address box around the words greys out and it won't connect. The message "a network cable is unplugged" comes up in the toolbar. I will go through the settings tomorrow (they have an installation CD). I'm guessing there is just a setting wrong. Any pointers as to what to look for? Thanks. |

Don't use the Install CD they can give problems, add the account in manually, you may need to callClear Net to manully make up an account if you don't have it already. |

If it isnt the main PC, and its a networked PC, ICS (under the dialup / properties / advanced tab (first option needs to be ticked) for a network PC to get on the net). And if there's more than 1 PC here (and the neighbour wants 2 / all of them to get onto the net), they'll need a xover cable if theres 2, or a hub if there's more than 3 PCs there. It'll most probably be easier setting up the dialup manually. The only thing extra, the install CD may have are the DNS servers for Clear. |

In IE Tools/Internet options select connections tab Hilight the dialup connection and select Settings on the right Make sure proxy server is not ticked. If you have a firewall such as zone alarm turn it off briefly for a check to make sure it is not blocking access |

But, you can't access any other webpage (eg Google or Trade Me). If you minimize the web page and open Outlook they can send and receive emails. If you close the web page and try to open Outlook it comes up with error messages and you have to reconnect Explorer to then use Outlook. I didn't get a chance to phone Clear's help desk. There are other issues and error messages coming up, which I will post separately, as I don't want one thread to end up covering too many issues! | Grimy (3041) | ||

Close and try again. In Outlook 2003, Tools>Options>Mail Setup (Tab) Check its not ticked there either ( down the bottom) |
