586429 2007-08-30 18:27:00 Bit the bullet and am running Vista as my primary OS now, and finding it great.
Barring one thing.

The wireless drops out. Every 6 hours or so. I know it's not the router, (D-Link DI-524) cause it never did that on XP, and rebooting Vista fixes it. I see a lot of other people have had this same issue with Vista, but I was unable to find a fix.

I'm using a static IP too, not router assigned, and there are no conflicts on the network.

I've got the latest drivers for the chipset and wireless installed.

I'm running an Asus M2N32 SLI Wifi-ap, 6000+ x2, 2 gig DDR2 Corsair, 7600GT and Vista Business.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. TIA

586431 2007-08-30 21:24:00 You may also try dropping the IPv6 from the NIC too, it isnt required, is an added protocol overhead and the router may not be too happy about it.

Also, are you using windows zero configuration (vista equivalent) or the NIC bespoke software? Some manufacturers have a setting for constant connection rather than idle drop off.

586432 2007-08-31 08:47:00  Thanks guys, Wainuitech that first link you gave there, I had tried that already to no avail. Lol at your last suggestion. Perish the thought! :badpc: :D

SolMiester, I had already disabled IPv6, thanks for the idea though. I'm using the standard Zero Config (Vista equivalent anyway). I'll get a version of the Asus Wifi-ap that works in Vista, and have a look for that kind of setting, and use the Wifi-ap for a while and see if the connection is still dropping out.

Thanks heaps for your suggestions guys.

586433 2007-10-03 04:48:00 Thought I'd dredge this one up again, still having problems, and I couldn't for the life of me get the Asus WiFi Ap to work.

Right now I'm trying the access point with no encryption on the wireless, perhaps that will make a difference.

Thanks in advance for any more suggestions. ;)

DIE TRAITOR!!!
How dare you suggest such a terrible thing!
Even to utter such opinions in jest are considered treachery and treason of the highest level.
I will need a huge bribe (something like x2 8800GTX's) to calm myself enough from hunting you down, and torturing you in the most terrible way.

586437 2007-10-03 08:06:00 It works... Just.

Have you tried deleting the settings for your router and saving them again? Vista might need a new copy of the installation settings (SSID, passkey etc)
