586089 2007-08-29 22:24:00 Looking for a compatible flash drive, 4 gig, that works with Vista Home Premium's ready boost feature.

Anyone know of one that meets the criteria?

586093 2007-08-30 03:57:00 If you need more RAM, it's better to get more RAM, not use a flash drive. Readyboost is not all it's cracked up to be. wratterus (105)

i use readyboost in vista ultimate, it makes a difference, but more ram if you can afford it is alot better,i use a transcend jet flash v30drive, does pretty well, 1gig

586095 2007-08-30 11:45:00 Yup, buying a good enough and big enough flash drive will easily be 2 or 3 times the cost of getting RAM in. Get proper RAM and you'll be even better off that with Readyboost. beeswax34 (63)
586096 2007-08-30 19:01:00 Thanks to all for replies. I will forget about the flash drive and go for RAM.

I initially thought I would be safer using a flash drive as at that stage I had not worked out how to locate and open up the laptop to find just where the RAM was located.

After much hesitation, and a few anxious moments, I found out where they stashed it. For others who may want to try it - be careful, the very thin plastic cover that needs to be remover has aluminium foil attached to it and additionally it is attached to the motherboard. Don't try to completely remove the cover or the link to the motherboard will be broken. Just fold it over enough to be able to remove the RAM.

Now to find some RAM, think I have the terminology right, I need DDR2 533 SODIMM, does that sound right ?

It depends on the type of motherboard your computer has been fitted with. Perhaps you can post us the model of your computer's motherboard?

Cheers :)
