| 586032 | 2007-08-29 20:27:00 | Hi, I Am Looking To Purchase A Small NAS Device To Share Some Files Over A Local Network And To Allow Me To Access It's Files Remotely ( ie: Over Internet ) It Needs: -FTP Server ( Online Access ) -Upnp AV ( Working With Media Reciever In Lounge ) -To Be Reliable! -To Be Semi-Fast ( 5+ MB/s ) It Can Be A Enclosure Preferrably ( 1 * IDE ( Not 2! ) ), A USB Storage Unit Or A Preinstalled Factory NAS. Can You People Find Something? Ben |

| 586034 | 2007-08-29 21:06:00 | Well I've got the D-Link DNS-323 NAS device which will do everything you want except it is a 2-bay unit. It will work fine with only one drive in it though. It takes SATA drives not IDE. It has a gigabit LAN connection on it and also a USB port so you can attach a printer to it to share on the network. I get speeds of about 8-9MB/s |

| 586036 | 2007-08-29 21:40:00 | Do you have windows Home server Sol? I've been using it since the Beta's come out, with 2TB ( 4 x 500 Gb )of drives, and remote access is idiot proof (almost) from any web browser in the world, and it also does Complete PC backup with no actions required from the user, which will restore a whole OS/Programs and data in arounf 15-20 minutes depending on how much stuff you got on your PC. A NAS wont do that:p  |

I have the pro xtra plan so downloading from it up to work isnt to bad actually!? . . . LOL . Well, better than average anyway! . . Mate, you have alot of data on that for a beta, hope you have a good set of backups . I do think its a great idea, though I am leaning more now towards a NAS device . Lets face it, less to go wrong! So it doesnt do backups, but any data i have would already be on the NAS anyway, and storing an image on the NAS would resolve any immediate recovery requirements should a pc fail! . . . . And, less money in M$ coffers as well!! |

| 586038 | 2007-08-30 01:04:00 | WHS is now available as a final OEM version from retailers such as Ascent. Upgrading from RC1 to RTM is supported. | somebody (208) | ||

I got the OEM installed in a new machine almost 2 weeks ago when it first was available from my vendor (17th Aug), has heaps of storage, but only using around 1 . 5 TB Thats backups from 5 PC's, general data and other stuff, like programs I install in customers PC's etc . A NAS is far cheaper (and smaller), but I mainly got WHS for backups and easy accesss form the WEB, with out the need for FTP software . And its good for small business's that need the same . Its says Home Server, but theres nothing in the licence saying it "has to be in a Home" only . Hell I work from Home - so does that apply  Try teaching "some People" how to use FTP software:lol: ( you'll know what I mean);) |
