586004 2007-08-29 13:26:00 Hi guys, just getting used to my new system.
I got:
AMD Dual Core 4200+ AM2 CPU
2 x 1GB DDR2 800Mhz Memory 2GB Total in Dual Channel Mode.
400Gb SATA 7200RPM High performance Hard Drive
Intergrated LAN-USB
Nvidia 8600GT 256MB Video card DX10

But the thing is, I have a xp drive and a c drive, what is the optimal way to use these?

Do I use one to run programs and the other as storage or use one til its full up and then work on the other?

Kinda just bugging myself out on it. Hope you understand what I meant...
Cheers

586005 2007-08-29 14:14:00 Install the OS and all the programs onto the small drive.

Start > right click My Documents > Properties > move it to your new large HD.

586007 2007-08-29 14:50:00 Well, why not just use the XP drive to keep running the OS and any updates and use the other 200GB's to store all your data and thus reduce any impact of disc/OS failure. You'll always have your data even if XP goes haywire. Just to give yourself a bit of backup just in case... beeswax34 (63)
586008 2007-08-29 15:28:00 OK, gotcha, so one stores and one does the workload?
I actually dont have much on either, mainly music which barely fills up 12gig.

586009 2007-08-29 19:12:00 Partition one of the drives, 20 G and 180 G.
Put XP on the 20 G, along with Programs. That way, if the OS is stuffed by a nasty bug or corrupted in some way, all of your data is saved.

And use Acronis or a free drive imager and back up the 20 G partition onto DVDs.

So why did you need such a large drive(s)?

I spplit mine, 20Gb for the O/S only, everything else on D:
You could have 3 - O/S, data, backup.

586011 2007-08-29 21:07:00 You could mirror them with RAID. Rob99 (151)
