585870 2007-08-29 02:06:00 If you can spare an extra 6 dollars you could get an Asus AM2 (www.edencomputers.co.nz)

The GB would be about 145 inc GST.

There maybe cheaper mobos if you do a search here (http://www.pricespy.co.nz/)

585871 2007-08-29 02:49:00 Check out the layout of the motherboard's you like to make sure they will take any add on cards you may have now or in the future so there is room for them and there is slots for them .

Go to the motherboard makers websites and have a look at the pictures of them and read about them there too . See if there are any reviews about them too to see what others think about them to BEFORE YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY SO YOU DON'T BUY A LEMON .

Stick to well known motherboard makers for quality standards, better components .
These two companies have been good for me::thumbs:
Gigabyte
MSI

The power supply what brand is it?

Make sure if you get a 8800 series graphic card to get a bigger watt psu and a good brand psu because they need the juice to run .

Ram if your serious into gaming then 2 x 1 gig ddr800 .
Adata,Legend . Sell at good prices so you have more money for the graphics card .

Do you really need a floppy drive?

585872 2007-08-29 03:17:00 Why are you buying old technology? The Gigabyte motherboard you've listed used the older nForce4 chipset, look for something with the nForce 570. Also consider dropping the AMD system and look at an Intel Core 2 Duo system, they offer greater performance and superior overclocking. Pete O'Neil (6584)
585873 2007-08-29 03:25:00 Thanks for that. Got some good ideas now from your info Dunedinteen1 (12748)
585874 2007-08-29 03:33:00 Well you could get a Quad core cpu if you wanted too?:D memphis (2869)

Good reviews compared with the NForce 590 chipset at a cheaper price. What sort of power supply would i need?
Dunedinteen1 (12748)
585876 2007-08-29 05:48:00 The power supply you will need will be dictated by how good a video card you're getting - it will make the most rigorous demand on your PSU of anything in the computer. If you plan to get something on the order of an NVidia 8800 card you will need to spend $200 or more on a PSU.

And if you plan to get a motherboard with SLI expandability you will need something at least 600w or better to run two cards at some time in the future.

You will not regret spending money now on a good PSU as you will not need to factor the cost of a better one into any upgrades later on.

585878 2007-08-29 06:19:00 Go to www.slizone.com a good place to check out certified sli products,to give you help/ideas etc. on psu's and other products.

I would also recommend a modular psu so you only use the cables you need,so you keep the computer case clean and tidy and is better for air flow in the case. The cables are sleeved as well.

Most of the time any psu that comes with a case is ****.
Thats why people buy a name brand psu such as Enermax,Antec,Cooler Master, etc.
