587092 2007-09-02 08:22:00 Having just set up an old celeron running Win 98 to give to a friend I'm now looking for some software.

I'm in need of a simple program for editing photos - mainly crop and resize into jpegs for emailing and trade me type purposes.

Free would be good.

Anyone with any recommendations?

587094 2007-09-02 08:34:00 I've heard of it before but never used it. Sounds ideal for what I want so am downloading it now.

Thank you.

587095 2007-09-02 09:43:00 There is also Google Picasa (picasa.google.com) CYaBro (73)
587096 2007-09-02 10:17:00 A second vote for Picasa. It's helped me organise and touch up the (literally) thousands of photos I've taken over the years. Simple to use with powerful effects like straightening and red-eye removal. And, it leaves your original photo alone. davehartley (3487)
587097 2007-09-02 10:23:00 What is picassa like on slow machines? Can they handle it? Greven (91)
587098 2007-09-02 10:24:00 Slow machines just take longer. winmacguy (3367)

Depends on how slow it is and how many pictures you have, Picassa will display a thumbnail of every image file it can find, so while the program has a relatively small footprint this can blow out to insane proportions, and can bring the machine to a screeching halt.

Cheers,
