586794 2007-09-01 04:33:00 Hi

I have Xtra BB and am currently unable to access one particular website (which I know is up and running normally) The site is www.pkr.com and today is the first day I haven't been able to access it. I suspect a DNS issue - I use the std Xtra DNS servers - as I can access it on my work laptop using a VPN client to go through their network.

What can I do to get around this? Can I use other DNS Servers?

Any help appreciated.

586795 2007-09-01 04:40:00 So you are into online poker eh. Yes the site is down. Ran Ping Plotter and it said host can't be found. Tried to enter through Google and again the site isn't running.

I am also on Xtra BB (Go large) & I also cant access that site you posted.

Yes, you can use other DNS Servers, Do a search of PressF1 for "DNS servers" & you should be able to find a number of posts with different ISP DNS servers ( If they will work, that’s another question altogether, you will just have to try a couple of different ones in till you can access the site.)

Hope this helps & Good luck :)

586797 2007-09-01 05:23:00 See This (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) post. There appears to be a connection problem with certain servers currently.

I'm in WGTN, I clicked on the link for the poker site it loaded instantly.

Time was 4.46pm Saturday

Now how to play that hmmmmmmmmmm

586798 2007-09-01 05:48:00 Thanks for all the replies. I tried using Orcon DNS servers, but still no luck. I got someone I know to ping the site and give me the IP address. Added that to my HOSTS file and could get to the website. Still couldn't start the PKR app though. Almost gave up, then decided to try IHUG DNS servers. Success.

I guess there's an issue with Xtra's DNS for that site. I might try changing my settings back in a couple of days, but thankfully it's working now. I can go have some fun.

586799 2007-09-01 22:32:00 There are a number of ISPs that are now not allowing external access to their DNS servers. See this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz). FoxyMX (5)
