2007-08-31 01:40:00 | This is an extension to the information given by Jan on page 26 of this months PC World concerning the new daylight saving times. If you have Windows XP SP2 or Vista, then the appropriate KB933360 patch can be applied. Note that validation is required to download this patch, ie WGA has to be installed. If you don't have WGA installed, then the Registry will need to be altered manually. The easiest way to do this is to download the tzedit.exe, the time zone editor, from here: www.microsoft.com where instructions are given, and also the details for a .reg file to do the same job. This version of the editor does not work with Windows 98. So for those still using Win98 or Win95, the time zone editor can be run from the install CD. It is found in this directory: tools\reskit\config Alternatively, the Win9x version can be downloaded from here: www.softshape.com It's a good idea to test the settings by resetting the computer clock to a minute before DST is due to start at 2.0am on 30th September, and see that the time jumps to 3 am. Note: if you have Win XP SP1 or other unsupported MS systems you will also have to use the editor.

For some unfathomable reason, for this update validation is required. I can't see why as the modifications are trivial. www.microsoft.com |

2007-08-31 04:42:00 | Yup thats right BUT the WGA thing you're talking about is the entry in Add/remove programs right? The download site doesnt install this, or ask you to install it. It checks your key and if its legit, it'll let you download it.

2007-08-31 04:48:00 | I got that update on patch tuesday through the normal update procedure | beama (111) | |
2007-08-31 04:58:00 | OK Speedy, I normally go and download manually anything that pops up. And with some of these it asks for verification which I don't pass, as I won't allow the WGA to install. I just allowed that update to down itself and looks like it's installed ok.So I can't get it manually but can allow those hard to get ones to do it their own way!! Never realised that. That's why I've been getting the Autopatcher. Thanks.

2007-08-31 05:09:00 | We are talking about WGA Validation Tool right? Not WGA Notification which is different? This is what puts that annoying thing on the desktop, telling you your XP isnt legit, the tool doesnt . If you're talking about the 2nd one, put updates on something other than Auto, then you wont get it automatically .

2007-09-01 02:08:00 | Haven't Microsoft enhanced their validation software so that no-one has a legal system? It's much easier to assume that all customers are crooks. :D | Graham L (2) | |

2007-09-01 20:46:00 | I have Ms updates on notify, then when update tuesday comes along I go and do a custom update and of course screen those updates. Using this method I still got the daylight saving patch. | beama (111) | |
