586938 2007-09-02 01:47:00 NFS is an excellent idea :D. I'll be on msn if you need a hand. Remember to install and start portmap & nfs-common on the client machine before trying to mount, otherwise you'll be waiting a loooooong time.... Erayd (23)
586939 2007-09-02 07:39:00 Using SQLite (the DMBS for collection.db) on a network drive would be a very bad idea and is probably the source of the issues - it's very sensitive to locking and synchronous updates of the file. I've also noticed that Amarok throws a hissy fit when using the networking KIO slaves to access music files. I've had trouble playing files over smb:// before. TGoddard (7263)
586940 2007-09-02 20:57:00 I took Bletch's offer, tested his tolerance with me not quite getting it at first, and finally am running NFS between mienserver and POS. This has fixed the problem, and amarok has a collection of music that it plays as if a local files, even tho it's stored on an entirely seperate machine.

I haven't got NFS quite right, and it's strictly read only, but that doesn't seem to be causing any issues, at least no issues regarding amarok being able to process my music cllection. Mind you, it would be interesting to see what happens if i tried editing the tags in the music files.

Why it prefers NFS to SMB i have no idea, but if it works then GOOD

Success!

Yay!!

586941 2007-09-04 04:03:00 I will say.....

I have NO idea why people put up with samba when there's NFS!

Honestly, if i had any idea how much better it is, i would have kissed samba goodbye many moons ago.........

I'd like to thank amarok for refusing to work properly until i tidied up my network protocols!
