586494 2007-08-31 04:56:00 Thats the first one i tried.

Also just thought i'd add that It only has one hard drive and I'm using a usb floppy to try and load the drivers.

Btw, thanks for your help.

Any other ideas?

If i can get a copy of windows with service pack two i wouldn't need to load the drivers because they're installed as an update.

As a last resort I'm thinking of removing the hard drive and slaving it of my desktop computer to format it. Then reinstall it in the lappy and start from fresh.

Err, no I dont think theyre in SP1 or 2 either .

I think you're talking about USB 2 which is, not SATA .

586497 2007-08-31 05:26:00 I've had a read thru but still no luck.

What do you think about my idea of removing the hd and reformatting it as a slave off my desktop computer.

I read here (www.maximumpc.com) about slipsteaming sp2. It includes sata drivers so you dont have to use a floppy. Whether theyre included or added during the slipstreaming i'm not sure.

At worst you'll have a formatted HD. I honestly don't know if it would then detect and allow XP to install, I've never tried it that way. I have done the formatting as you mention plenty of times, but that was to create a drive I could copy data to for temp storage since my extenal HD's were already being used elsewhere.

Been looking at what feels like hundreds of posts/suggestions and apart from the SATA driver installs already mentioned, the only main suggestion is -

Go into the BIOS and turn off the SATA RAID altogether. You shouldn't need a driver disk at all, the boot cd should see the stata disks just fine. When installed turn the SATA back on.

Maybe some other Tech here will be able to come up with a working solution. Sorry:(

586500 2007-08-31 06:09:00 I've had a look around the bios and can't seem to find an option for turning the sata off.
Bios is Phoenix R01A1H

Thanks for trying to help wainuitech. Appreciate it.

Brian

Anyone else got any ideas?

586501 2007-08-31 07:18:00 I was just thinking - You did mention earlier on in the posts that you found the SATA drivers from the site 17Mb.
I located the same SATA drivers in a couple of minutes that you found -The question I didn't think about till now - (Bit slow today, trying to complete 3 Laptops to get back later tonight to the customer, 6.40 geees) any way is there any reason you can't down load the drivers required ?

Wouldn't that fix the problem ?

As if you install XP the other drivers ( audio /Graphic's etc) would need to be downloaded as well. 17Mb is not a lot, direct from the Site (www.fujitsu-siemens.com).

I just downloaded them in 5.20 Minutes ( SATA only)

586502 2007-08-31 08:00:00 I've downloaded all the drivers from that site for this model laptop and saved them to disc for the owner .

The trouble i'm having is trying to get xp to install .
If i try to install normally (set bios to boot from cd etc, etc) i get an error saying no hd can be found .

If i try and install using F6 i get an error "file iaStor . sys caused an unexpected error (32768) at line 2108 in D:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisc . c .
Press any key to continue"

I'm wondering if the vista installation is causing the errors . (my thought is that ms don't want people going back to xp so have made it difficult)

Reading that, I hope I'm wrong but do you still have Vista installed on the Drive you are trying to install XP on ?

I was under the impression the drive you have is an empty drive ?

While I've never done it, I would be highly surprised if Xp would install if Vista is present.
I know that still shouldn't stop the HD from detecting, but you will be fighting a uphill battle if Vista is still installed.

Going the other way it would work as Vista detects the XP and depending on the version (OEM or reatil) either asks to upgrade or tells you it will wipe the drive.

The boot loaders for Xp and Vista are different. If you wanted to duel boot, which I have set up many times XP & Vista, first you install XP then partition the drive ( or Vista will can do that also) then install Vista and it changes the boot loader(s) as required, but it wont work the other way around without manually changing it and thats a pain.
