1412986 2015-12-15 23:40:00 Apart from the grating American accent, American programmes are generally very shallow – running around pointing guns at everyone – and their so called comedy is just not funny. We can’t understand why anyone would find American TV even slightly interesting. Which means, of course, that the only channels we watch are mainly TV1, some Prime and the occasional programme on Choice. Roscoe (6288)
1412987 2015-12-15 23:52:00 Well that is why there is a large number of different channels to choose from. If you do not like a show you are not compelled to watch it. I cannot tolerate so called 'Reality TV' myself but a lot of viewers love the cooking shows, make yourself look younger shows and the like. I guess it would be a very boring world if we all had identical interests. CliveM (6007)
1412988 2015-12-16 01:22:00 ... their so called comedy is just not funny. .

Spike Milligan said it was as funny as a baby with cancer.

But are we talking those "comedy" sitcoms or actual comedy?

Not sure you can label all US stuff suck and all non US great. Britian has some terrible comedy too.

And the US make loads of good docos, even some good movies.....

1412990 2015-12-16 03:07:00 It just has to be accepted that "the lowest common denominator" are in the majority :banana :badpc: Terry Porritt (14)
1412991 2015-12-16 03:44:00 Bit like some of the stand up comedy. Some of its really good, others - narrr not so great.

Watching Live at the Apollo the other night -- Maybe you had to be there, but most of it was :sleep (It was replacing The NZ show 7 days.)

1412993 2015-12-16 05:58:00 One of the funniest things ever was was Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins trying to talk Cockney.....Happy 90th. Terry Porritt (14)
1412994 2015-12-16 17:31:00 Well, then you just have not seen Russian TV. That is really complete nonsense, untrue gossip from scratch and hex!
And...
Sometimes (time to time..after a hard working day) you just want to see something simple unobtrusive...
And there are really funny worthy films in America.

Are there I must have not watched them?

1412995 2015-12-16 19:00:00 I like a lot of American stuff, and I dislike a lot of it also. Just because Roscoe doesn't understand my like for it I'm not going to change my opinion.
I didn't comment sooner because frankly I saw no point in the original post. Someone doesn't like something.... so what?

I Love some British comedy:- red dwarf, the new statesman, brush strokes, many others. Then there's British comedy I don't get at all and don't find particularly funny (Like Dick Van Dyke sorry Terry)
Same goes for American shows. You watch what you like, you ignore what you don't, and you leave others to do the same. Where's the problem?

Considering the taste of other people to somehow be less worthy than your own says more about your own lack of character than their lack of taste. I hate reality TV, I can't stand talent shows, I never watch soap operas, and I don't care if anyone else does or think less of them for it. That's what choice is about, without options you have no choice.
